Grout size for white 3x6 subway tile
Comments (2)We liked the 1/16" look for ours. Our colors are practically the reverse of yours--grey tile & pearl grout. We have a combination of 3x6s (top 2/3 of the shower) and 10x13s (bottom 1/3) separated by 1x12 decorative glass listellos. To me, the grout lines always look a little larger when complete anyway, so I would go smaller rather than larger. Plus it's less space for anything yucky to grow! Just my $0.02...See Morewhat size grout lines for subway on walls of tub
Comments (3)As for the nubs, don't worry about it-- I'll tell you right now-- your tile is self spacing. As for thinset, any modified thinset would work well to set your tile. Something like Laticrete's Multipurpose thinset from Lowes, or Custom's Versabond at Home Depot would work great. As for the mesh tape, I'd strongly suggest using a self adhesive mesh tape, and then just thinset over it when you go to set yout tile. The reason is that if you go over the mesh tape ahead of time, you'll end up with "speed bumps" throughout your wall. Thinsetting the tape as you set your tile will be just as strong an installation....See MoreWhat is the rationale for grey grout with white subway tile?
Comments (36)Oh Bill, Bill.....trying to distract you again here. The grout colorant you mentioned says it can be used inside or outside...I think? Does that mean it would work for a problem with a "mortar" color on an exterior entryway? A portion of our flagstone topped landing coming in the front door of our house had to be torn out as it was not square. The mortar color of the part that was redone does not match the other part. We had a brown colorant mixed into the mortar for the entire project, but the redo came from a different bag and is darker. I don't know if there is a difference between "inside grout" and "outside mortar" as far as this colorant goes. Do you know? Thank you, Mr. Bill, for any help....See Morewhite or grey grout with white subway tiles?
Comments (14)not contributing anything new-darker, or rather contrasting, grout when you want to emphasize the shape or the pattern of the tile, blending-close to the color of the given tile grout-if you don't here's another thought for you..light gray/bone will be probably fine. the darker you take it-the stronger the contrast. which might be amazing looking and all but take into consideration-not everybody is doing great with high contrast, especially very dark and very light together, colors and lines interchanging frequently as in with the grout and tiles..it makes a lot of people dizzy-not good for a space like a bathroom where you'd rather not feel dizzy if it was for your own enjoyment and you handle high contrast well-go for it if it's for resale-take into consideration a pretty big amount of people that will find it hard on their eyes i also wanted to go with contrasting grout..fortunately i realized i'd be the first to fall in my own shower, surrounded by this striking geometry again, if it's just a tad darker color though-it will probably look cool and still be fine with the majority of the buyers...See Morelolauren
