Syndecrete counters - anyone have it or know about it?

I'm in the Going Crazy Can't Decide about my countertop phase...looking for something contemporary, matte, not shiny. Today I saw Syndecrete in a store and it had a lot of the qualities I want - it's similar to Caeserstone/Silestone manmade quartz materials, but it doesn't have resins and polymers and is concrete based.

If anyone has it or any info to share on it, I'd appreciate hearing, and seeing pix. I searched and no one here on GW seems to mention it, even among the Countertop listings...

Syndecrete is owned/developed/marketed by David Hertz, a green architect in Santa Monica. I hired him as an expert witness once (on green buildings generally, not on Syndecrete). He's serious about being green so I assume that Syndecrete is not just greenwashing. I have not heard whether it can be used for countertops but I suppose that if concrete can, and caesarstone type materials can, why not? Interesting idea....

Bluekit - thank you so much! This is very helpful. I'm in So Cal and saw the sample at Living Green and it's always hard to know what's really "green" and what's, as you say greenwashing.

Still would like to hear reports from anyone who has used it as a countertop material - salesperson said it's indestructible, but I'd like to hear from "real" people who have used it...

I only see one chair. From the general style, it's one of the elaborate "Revival" chairs of the 1920s and 30s ... Jacobean Revival, Tudor Revival, Renaissance revival. Most of them were elaborately decorated mass-market pieces that used the decorative bits from the period they were reviving without much thought as to whether they fit or not. Your chair, for example, has the Rococo era C-shaped scrolling from one style and the twisted "barley sugar" spindles from another era and country. If they are sturdy, they are worth cleaning and reupholstering.

Dawn sink - anyone have one or know anything about them?

tansy: when I purchased the sink, the ebay seller did NOT specifically state that the sink was Dawn, but it's ?engraved? onto the sink (on the wall part, under the faucet) in big (?2inches) letters. Now that I remember, I think it was 16gauge on the rim and 18gauge for the sink. Aussie: If someone had warned me about the drainage problem, I would still have gotten the sink, but definitely TEST the drainage thing BEFORE installation (or ASAP so that if it doesn't drain well, I can still return/exchange it. Other than that, I was very happy w/ it. It's a great deal. I would probably get it again (but test/check it asap instead of waiting 3months until the sink was installed under the granite) if I weren't getting a custom one stamped out of the stainless steel countertop.

I`m not 100% sure but I have read something here and there about this sink and from what other people say the price difference may come from the fact that they werenÃ¢ÂÂt made in China. that was the only plausible explanation I could find.

This comes up on the forum often. It is a nice product but it was really pricey. The company appears to take green seriously and if you in CA, you don't have to worry about shipping. I remember somewhere around $150/sq.ft. It was close to the price of Pyrolave.

Wow that's pricey. I thought she said a lot less in the store, but I don't think that included installation, so I'll check further. Meanwhile, I'm leaning - again - toward honed granite...and visiting the stoneyard tomorrow to see if I "fall in love" with a piece, as people seem to...

FYI what you said about thiscoming up frequently - I did a search and it came up with nothing. I'm new at this forum, so maybe I need a lesson in searching, but it seems like just typing in "Syndecrete" should do it, right??

Most of the discussion threads have been about concrete. Do a search on concrete and you'll pull more up - although it's been a while, so they may have fallen completely away by now.
