Kohler Dickinson apron-front sink vs. Rohl fireclay farmhouse
Comments (10)We have the Dickinson and have been very happy with it. But, Johnliu really did say it best. After drooling over the Rohl I realized I didn't want to shred my nerves over a sink or anything else anymore. I've seen 30 year old cast iron sinks that lived in households with 5 kids and they looked fine. DH all by himself can be the equivalent of 5 kids in the kitchen so I figured I was okay with the Dickinson. Bottom line, I guess, is "know thyself" (as well as the habits of others who will use the sink) and choose accordingly....See MoreRohl Sink Accessories + Drain Location
Comments (3)assuming you're doing a Shaw's Original farmhouse-style sink, there is no "left side". these sinks are finished on all four sides, so you can flip it around and put the off-set drain on whichever side suits your purposes better. you'll need the extended flange (get one that matches your faucet) to connect to a garbage disposal. that's just because the fireclay is so thick that a normal flange doesn't extend out the bottom far enough to give the GD anything to connect to. these things aren't cheap ($125 or so) considering they're just a metal tube. the basket is that little thingy that sits in the drain and catches crumbs or whatever. purely optional....See MoreDisappointed in Irawoods
Comments (2)I don't like Ira Woods much. I ordered something from them, which it turned out was on backorder for 2 months. But when I first ordered it, I called to make sure it was in stock, which they told me it was. Only after I didn't receive it, did they tell me it was on backorder. Also, it took a couple of phone calls, being on hold for a while, being promised a call back as to order status and never getting one, before I got to someone who could actually tell me how long it would be before my order would come in. In the end, I received my item in perfect condition, and luckily I wasn't in a hurry at the time. Meanwhile, I ordered a Kohler drain assembly from Faucetdepot.com. It came in the wrong finish, which was MY ERROR. I indeed clicked on the wrong thing when I placed my order. Totally my own fault. I realized it as soon as the box arrived and I saw the finish listed on the label. I called faucetdepot and they replaced it with the correct finish, free of charge, no restocking fee, and I got the replacement in just a couple of days. I think I did pay for the shipping costs to send it back, but after all, it was my fault....See MoreDoes anyone have the Rohl/Shaw's grid in their sink?
Comments (6)My measurements are similar to inmydreams, Francy. This may be a case, for you, of buying this product locally, from a place that will let you return it if it doesn't work out for you after trying it out on your own sink. I hate returning Internet purchases, because often there is a fee or more shipping costs involved. As I said, I love my grid, and have had no regrets in the two months we have been using our kitchen. Like other posters, I too have stained mine with tomato sauce, or any tomato products, but I have sprayed the grid down with that Clorox bleach spray cleaner, left it on a few minutes, and the stains have disappeared after rinsing. If the stains are old, it may take more than one application. We eat pasta dishes often, so those stains are a real possibility. But I try to be careful and I have told my kids and my husband that when we have tomato sauces in our meals, they are to clean off the dishes right over the drain opening, and if not, they are to use the side sprayer to immediately remove the tomato from the grid. So far, everyone is on board with this, and we have no permanent stains. If you don't like the look of the grid, you can always remove it, but I never have. We had a New Year's Eve party, and our dozens of guests loved the new kitchen, and several commented on what a great idea the grid was. I'd much rather protect my sink than not. I don't find it either unattractive or that hard to maintain. Hope this helps....See Morepurplewmn
