Please help, I just DESTROYED my nicest pan ever.

Hi all,

My MIL gave me the nicest piece of cookware I've ever owned to date. The big giant 3qt pan from Pampered Chef, it was a birthday gift. Its stainless steel and I read the care instructions and planned a special meal to cook in it today (just got the thing yesterday!). Well, I've never used non-coated cookware before and burnt the heck out of the pan and discolored the inside of it. My meal wasn't burned though :)

I soaked it in hot soapy water for an hour, no joy. I soaked it in boiling water for 15 minutes, nothing. I soaked it in boiling water with soap, no luck.

Is there some secret to getting this thing looking half decent again?

Of course, it's still functional but I feel bad that I've had it less than 24 hours and it was SO pretty. I don't want my MIL to see it like this and come to the realization that by buying me an expensive pan did not make me a better cook :)
