kitchen progress-cream and gray...

I love kitchen progress threads, so here is mine so far! :)
Couple of things...

See that post? That was part of a wall-knocked it out to make it more open...knew we had an issue the day they framed the kitchen. It was so cramped! I am glad we took it out!

These are HAAS cabinets. I had a custom cabinet order. (smithport cabinetry), but then they told us their lead time was 3 months after we submitted our order. NO thanks! My KD and I scrambled to re-build a design that we had tweaked for a year in a matter of days with semi-custom, and I got pretty close to the original design...

It is an L in a large rectangle room-(combined dining/kitchen)-the kitchen L is roughly 16 ft. x 14...

I did have 48 inches for the two isles, but when I stepped into the space, it felt cramped. I have 6 kids, and I want alot of room in the isles-so we increased the isle between range cabs and island to 54, and then between sink and island to 52, and it feels so right. :)

Countertop will be Luce de Luna...or white macc or whatever you call it... :)

Habitat Restore is a store that tells new and used items and the money benefits Habitat for Humanity. Sometimes contractors will donate good cabinets and other items that they pulled out of a house. Sometimes stores donate items like when a custom order gets cancelled or a some style gets discontinued or they just have a surplus of an item. Great job! Love your choices. Perfect examples of kitchens that will look a lot more expensive than they were.

As a previous honey-oak cabinet owner and hater, I say take the risk and go for it! When I moved in my house 2 years ago, i HATED the cabinets, abhored them and tried to paint around the honey color, I painted the walls 3 colors in 6 months. All of it seemed to still scream late 70's honey oak to me. So at least yours isn't as "honey" as mine were. And your DH is on board! So that's the brightside. My boyfriend is one of those that thought no wood should be painted. After collecting white kitchen pics I adored for about 3 months and showing him them EVERY night, he finally gave in. I sanded the entire kitchen myself. We also replaced all our cabinet doors, because I hated the double cathedral look of them, and had a local cabinet maker make us shaker style. We did all the painting ourselves. My boyfriend is great at spraying, and his grandpa was a professional painter for years, so he painted the frames. Had the doors outside painting them and one of our friends backed over 7 of our cabinet doors while they were drying!!! lol So we had to wait 3 more weeks for more cabinet doors. Then after they were painted the paint didn't match. So we have successfully painted our cabinets 2 times. We went with an acrylic base the 2nd go round and I LOVE it! We have a satin on our cabinets, white subway tile backsplash. If you're interested I can post some before and after pics for you! It will be well worth it to paint in the end. We also changed how ours looked. We had a soffit at the top and cut out areas above our doors and put in glass, it's unique now! And cut down an in-wall oven cabinet to make upper/lower, and added crown to all of it. So at least you already have your granite and flooring! We had 70's lineoleum in a yellow/red brick pattern, and honey oak! My wall color is BM louisberg green, with mohave cream granite. We did replace all our appliances one by one over the last year with stainless though, and I like it much better than the white on white. But I love the clean look of a white kitchen! Good luck!

Wow, it looks fabulous! I can see why you chose all those redroze elements, they just look so good together - I can't imagine anything looking better (but then, I bet that granite does shine in any kitchen). You must be so happy! You beat me by 2 days - I made breakfast on Sunday, and I made dinner and served it in the new dining room on Sunday night. We *could* have been eating on 8/7, but friends had us over for dinner, and I still had a ton of painting and cleaning to do, so Saturday ended up being pizza. I didn't feel right about making a meal and not having anywhere to serve it, so it had to be the kitchen AND dining room ready. Here's a picture of us eating:

I became interested in what can be found too, pretty much right away.. there's many more, but I don't know your style..so I just put together something..a bit less bohemian that I am usually easily enamored with, but judge for yourself, maybe something will speak to you? they're all from one site only-I gave myself restrictions like that, or I'd never be done:) these are Anthropologie..and I usually go and check out many sites, from eBay and Etsy and Chairish, to OneKingsLane, Gilt, Amara, Leif etc. These are huge..takes some patience and time of course. Nevertheless I still find them less overwhelming that Wayfair or Overstock (where good things can be found too) not all of these are purple; but they all can be used as "purple plus cream plus gray" inspiration (I usually don't suggest prints distributed by stores..but there's something about her I couldn't resist..))

Wow, what a difference having high ceilings makes. Sadly I only have 8ft. Your kitchen is beautiful, can't wait to see the finished product!

heidia: Oooo, I'm right behind you in the process so I'm excited to see your kitchen! Your layout is eerily similar to mine, cabs yet to be built..

May I ask several questions?

What are your plans for the openings at the top of your wall cabs? Display or storage?
How high is your ceiling?
What size are the cabs flanking your stove?
Would you please take a closeup pic of your range hood framing before the doors go on? I want something very similar and would love to see how yours is constructed. I need to submit final, final specs to our cab guy in one month.

Lastly, it's all looking great and the blue/grey island looks beautiful! Thanks.

Deedles-I can't wait to see yours as well!
Except for the open area above the fridge, all the upper openings will be covered by doors, no glass, no display. I debated that, but decided to keep things behind doors. :) They should be on soon! :)

The cabs will go all the way to ceiling-the space above them is about 4 inches, and it will be just a plan straight board covering that area.

Ceiling is 10 ft. Uppers are 36 and uppermost are 24, with the 4ish space above. I chose to have 19 inch counter to fit my big kitchenaid. :) So they are tall! And I will need a ladder for those uppers! :)

Cabs flanking stove-lowers are both 36 inch drawer bases, uppers are both 36 as well. Range will be 36 inches(wolf gas). ETA-Hood is 42 inches tall and 45 inches wide.

I will take a close up pic of the range hood detail when I go to the house tomorrow. :) There will be matching doors over the open spaces. It is actually a hood by HAAS, but with the matching doors and none of the extraneous trim and molding they have in their pics...you can see them at the bottom of the screen here:

heidia, I am looking forward to seeing the finished kitchen, it looks gorgeous so far. Love the colour of the island and the walls, they could fit right in to my kitchen in progress!!

Very interested in your post! We are having Haas cabinets (Whipped Cream color on perimeter, Java on island) installed Dec. 6th. What color did you choose for perimeter, and what door style? What do you think about the quality so far? We are going with the Homestead line. Can't wait to see your end result!

Karlsmom- we chose linen and industrial gray. Door style is shakertown. :) Capital series. I really love the colors. I really like the painted finishes. :) The quality-so far, looks great. I do not love the melamime though-they are all ply, and I would have preferred just wood showing on bottoms of drawers instead of a thin piece of melamine over the ply...I guess it will protect them, but it is not as pretty as the wood. Otherwise, the drawers open and close beautifully, everything feels so solid. :)

I like progress pics too! It makes me live vicariously while I am still in the framing stage for my kitchen....gives me hope and inspiration. Thanks for sharing your pretty kitchen. I love it already....post your counter slab pics too!

Aubrey pulls in assorted sizes(3 3/4 uppermost, 4 inch uppers), 6 inch on slab drawers and 8 inch on deep drawers)-I got this idea from Breezy on this site by the way. ;) In polished nickel

Do you know what weight your drawer glides are rated for? It looks like attachment points just at the front and back. You might want to check load limits on those big drawers before you load them up with pots and pans.

Hey, thank you for the hood pics. I wonder why they have hinges under there? Or no, those must be some kind of fastener? Huh, well thanks for posting, I'll show this to my cab guy, he's never done a range hood and between your images and some from DIYguy we should be able to work it out.

Your slab is gorgeous. The two granites that I've fallen in love with on here are that Luna that you've chosen and Ohno's rainforest green.

Oh, my! This is looking really, really good, Heidia. I've always like gray, but if I were remodeling now what I'd like best about all the grays on the market now would be the opportunity to combine them with cream. Lovely, and classic without seeing it everywhere.

We were going to put Rainforest Green in our bath, Deedles. It would have been gorgeous, but there wasn't clearance for the faucet, a beam was in the way, I should have gotten a lower, standard-depth tub, whatever. Sigh. (We had to do ceramic instead.)

Counters getting installed today. :) When I take better pics for the final reveal, I cannot wait to show you some of the gold veining by the sink and the big sink cut out behind it that was not up when I was there...anyhow, here is your daily stone porn, lol-quartzite-details: 6 inch b/s, pencil edge, 1 inch eased corners, 2 seams(one in sink and one by corner), and I had to really look to find them, so I am happy. :)

And why not just one more-wow the gray is more gray in the house than the yard, and it makes the cream cabs look more cream-okay with both of these things. ;)

I like how the lines of the Maccubus go vertical. The seam in the corner of the L just flows. Having the island in gray just pulls it all together.

Thank you bookworm4321. :) The stone b/s is 6 inches high, so I am going sans backsplash above that. I think it will be enough, especially since the back of the sink is higher, and I will have a full stainless behind range. :) And I am def making that window trim more narrow-going from 4 inch to 3...
