Comments (39)Just in case anyone checks back I think I found what I love the most. A really nice girl at United Tile helped me out so much. I almost gave up going there because I never got much help. Anyhow, she let me take home sample boards that have been grouted. I can't believe how much this has helped my decision. My mom and dad came over, bless them as they came over ASAP, and right when they walked in they said "that's the one" pointing to the Walker Zanger polished calacatta. They said it just does so much for the kitchen and I totally agree. The 4x12 samples I have are honed which I thought I liked but much prefer the polished as it adds some warmth. I almost threw out the idea of marble. Thank goodness I had a free day to drive to this store! And the girl said if I know a contractor I'll get contractor's price-my brother is a contractor! Yeh! In these picks you will see beveled subway (my 2nd choice), thassos marble (a little too plain), glass subway (way to contemporary now that I see it grouted and too much shine), and the calacatta is the one with the most veining. I sure hope this helps anyone else out there with soapstone unsure of what to do. beveled subway (left) calacatta (next to beveled) glass far right (too glossy and more blue in person-very cold) thassos to the left...See MoreKitchen sneak peek/ Backsplash opinions
Comments (27)I chose to do snow white for the grout (debated between that and the bright white). I'll post a picture after it's grouted. Francoise...the corner cabinet is going to stay open. That was a last minute change to our plan when our cabinet maker suggested an articulated door for the corner uppers. I don't care for the function/feel of a hinged door so I spontaneously decided to have an open corner. I tweaked it a bit after seeing remodelqueen's corners on the hidden gems thread and set it back an inch so it wouldn't look like a cabinet without doors (boy do I love this website!). I'll post more pictures of the cabinets once everything is in....See MorePics of backsplash with soapstone counters...NOT white subways
Comments (6)My husband had the same response -- that's why I used bigger subs (4x8) and trimmed with glass mosaics. Below is a link to a previous thread -- I have pictures posted there. Also, if you click on "my page" next to my name, and then "my clippings" and scroll all the way down, you will see some more examples of BS with SS. Make sure you look at the LAST picture. I love that marble BS with the SS! Here is a link that might be useful: thread with more pictures...See MoreNo backsplash at all?
Comments (12)Ok, these are lousy photos, but maybe a lousy photo is better than no photo at all. I'm restoring a 1929 kitchen. It only ever had a tile backsplash behind the sink. (I currently have paper tiles taped up so I can see how it looks.) The other areas will be painted (yellow). This might now help you much, since it's a vintage kitchen. I think trailrunner also has a vintage style kitchen with no backsplash. And she even has a wall mount faucet on the regular wall. And she cooks like crazy! If she doesn't see this thread, scroll down a few days to find one of her "working kitchen" threads, and you can ask her if the absence of a backsplash creates any functional problems. She really gives that wonderful kitchen a workout! Stand alone range with painted wall behind (we really need a hood to help keep that wall clean!)...See Morerjr220
