Natural Maple Shaker Cabs
Comments (9)I have Natural Maple Shaker Cabinets - KraftMaid - that were in the house we bought 11 yrs. ago. I was so pleased w/ them because I was coming from a home where I'd lived 20 yrs. w/ dk. wood stained cabs, which in 2002 seemed so dated. I'm considering having them painted when we get a new range and replace the OR/MW with a hood. Several things give me pause, though. The first is that in many ways they are the "Golidlocks" of cabinet colors. They aren't too stark here in the New England winter, and they don't feel dark and heavy in the summertime (as my old cabinets did). They are very forgiving in terms of upkeep. I have white cabs at our lakehouse & they need more attention to remain pristine. My DD's black painted cabs are beautiful, but any dust at all, or pollen from an open window, is highlighted on them, as are fingerprints. I clean my maple cabinet faces regularly, but I never feel I have to check to see if they're "acceptable" when I'm expecting company. Little dings don't show, and there's no issue with cracks or peeling paint. The flip side is they can look pretty blah. In my case, the wood floor is nearly the same shade as the cabinets, so there's a lot of neutral wood going on. I think if you have some other color going on with your flooring and countertop choice, you may be very happy with natural maple....See MoreWould love to see pics of your light maple cabinets!!
Comments (21)Your kitchens look awesome with red. I REALLY wish I could use that color, but because of the open floor plan, I can't. I do think the kitchens look warm and inviting. Alywa, your yellow is very pretty - it is bolder than mine and more golden!! I'm going to meet with a painter today and see what he says. I have bought soooo many samples of paint and just can't find the right color - creamy colors beige out and turn shades khaki, mushroom, peach, etc., tans turn green, and on it goes. I may just stick with the yellow at this point - "better the devil you know than the one you don't!" My cabinets are Canac - I live in Sacramento, CA and there just happened to be a showroom in a nearby town. Here is their link: http://www.canackitchens.com/index.cnc There prices were very good and they have a beautiful selection of cabinets. My cabinets have an interesting cut in each of the four corners that looks really sharp when two sets of cabinets are together - it forms a diamond shape. I don't have a picture of two sets together, but here is one set of cabinets with fairly good detail to view. The colors are more uniform than this picture looks, probably caused by using a BlackBerry instead of a real camera!! :-) Here is a link that might be useful:...See Morewhite cabs or maple?
Comments (3)Starting at one end and going left...I have one 42 long " upper, then a 36" window, an angle corner, then a 30" to the left of the corner, 30" above the micro, 18" to the left of the micro. None will be getting plate racks or glass as I have them crammed full of stuff. They are 42"high. Oh, on another wall there is one cab above the fridge and a 24" next to the fridge. I have used the extra space as storage for my holiday stuff. It is so much easier than wrapping, packing and lugging holiday stuff out of the basement or attic! Also, I am not neat enough and my stuff isn't nice enough for glass. I am tired of the white, but we have a blue (shades of blue) backsplash and blue walls, and it may be the blue that I am tired of, and not really the white. The walls will be painted and the backsplash may go, we'll see after the walls get changed. I like the white just fine, but I really like real wood. I'm hoping using real wood in white will satisfy me. Hubby pointed out with the $ we save by not having to pay for install, and maybe some savings on doors vs whole cabinets (though I hear doors are 80% of the cost of the cabs) we can put the $ toward the stainless appliances. I think losing the blue, getting stainless will help me like the white again. Considering a glazed white, though I've read that is becoming dated. I thought it would highlight the structure of the cabinet doors and make me feel more like it was changed....See MoreWill Poplar and Maple accents stain similar
Comments (5)They stain differently because poplar is much softer than maple. You need to stain the maple and then get some pieces of scrap poplar to play with. I could tell you more but I don't want to go to the trouble if you don't want to take the time and expense and effort. If you don't, get the minwax stain and pratice on a piece of scrap maple and poplar....See Morelascatx
