I like your kitchen. Sorry, I don't have any suggestions for color. My kitchen is painted the same color as the great room which is a light gray. And I haven't decided on flooring or counters yet. (I'm working in phases, and only have one wall of natural maple right now. The rest are painted white.)

But, I do have a question for you. Your kitchen layout is very much like mine. What kind of cabinet do you have in that back corner? The doors like very narrow and have a drawer, so I'm assuming it's not a lazy susan type.

That back corner is actually a lazy susan. I am going to put handles on both sides (tops and bottoms) to make to make is appear as "drawers" and "cabinets" in order to keep the continuity going.

Have you ever considered cream/white for the walls? Because your cabs go to the ceiling, you won't see any wall color there, anyways. If you love your cabinets, maybe just white would allow the the cabinets and the countertop to really steal the show, know what I mean?

Just a thought. BTW - I'll be posting the exact same question here in a few weeks! I also have maple cabinets and they go to the ceiling as well. I've been thinking of white a lot for the reasons I listed above. I'll be watching this thread!

my coffee glazed light maple cabinets looked pink against my pale golden yellow walls. So we painted them a color similar to abbycat's. Ours is Valspar's autumn leaves. Our floor is multicolored slate...

I don't have light maple cabinets (mine are stained 'Mystic Toffee' :>). But I think white washes out light maple rather than letting it shine.

Paint is the easiest and cheapest and has the widest choices possible, so wait until you've chosen flooring (cuz you have to paint around everything now anyways). I'd go for some colour though- nothing too pale.

rmlanza: Love your color! We were dead set against anything remotely "reddish", but a designer pal suggested we work WITH the brick chimney wall in the center of the kitchen/LR/Den area:

We used BM Monroe Bisque. It looks yellowish during the day, greenish at night, but mostly it's pretty blah. I am going to change the paint color once we figure out our backsplash.

Your kitchens look awesome with red. I REALLY wish I could use that color, but because of the open floor plan, I can't. I do think the kitchens look warm and inviting.

Alywa, your yellow is very pretty - it is bolder than mine and more golden!!

I'm going to meet with a painter today and see what he says. I have bought soooo many samples of paint and just can't find the right color - creamy colors beige out and turn shades khaki, mushroom, peach, etc., tans turn green, and on it goes. I may just stick with the yellow at this point - "better the devil you know than the one you don't!"

There prices were very good and they have a beautiful selection of cabinets. My cabinets have an interesting cut in each of the four corners that looks really sharp when two sets of cabinets are together - it forms a diamond shape. I don't have a picture of two sets together, but here is one set of cabinets with fairly good detail to view. The colors are more uniform than this picture looks, probably caused by using a BlackBerry instead of a real camera!! :-)

In my last house, we did light maple. The Fiestaware dishes dictated the color scheme and the glass tile in the backsplash gave us the color for the walls.

Parma42 - LOL! Thank you. The painter was here and I almost chickened out, but he gave me alot of confidence. We looked at a color chart and found a color close to what I want, which is in the brown range - your post about the browns in the gallery was timely. I'll pick the paint up and he'll return on Saturday with the individual paint colors to add to darken, lighten, etc. He'll work with me until I get it just how I want it. ahhhh...

So back to the tile store to find what I really want on the floor, not what will go good enough with the "lemon chiffon" paint!!

And I still olwn it! In this economy you just can't sell. The lady who has it now is rent-to-own and she has ANTS in my kitchen and wants me to do something about it for her.

Tell her to not leave dog food out for the dog?

I guess I have to call an exterminator and PAY for it for her.

Thanks though, I really did have a hard time leaving my kitchen. I learned that NEVER (as in, "I will never move from this house") can be as little as two years.

I'm worried once my kitchen is done, I won't even let my wonderful 19 year old son in it (envision yellow police tape surrounding my kitchen!) :-)

I just realized I didn't fully respond to Lecuzz - my cabinets are Canac brand, the style is Hartford, and the color is Ginger. They look nothing like the picture in the catalog, so I'd recommend going to a showroom if you have that option and are interested.

I also got a couple of nice extras - an appliance garage to the right of the refrigerator, which is in a pantry like closet. There are electrical outlets in the back of the cabinet, and a pullout shelf, so I can put my toast or coffee pot in there, hidden from view.

I had vertical shelves placed in the cabinet above the fridge so I can store things efficiently like cookie pans, etc.

Also, they weren't installed when the picture was taken, but on the side of the cabinets as you enter the kitchen, both upper and lower, I had the cabinet fronts placed on there so it wouldn't look so plain. They was a suggestion by my cabinet maker. I can take a pic if you're interested.
