stone fireplace color enhancers?
Comments (5)Almost any decent quality enhancer will do the job. Home Depot carries some good products, just don't buy the cheapest ones. Most enhancers have a choice of gloss or matte finish. Since it's indoors you might look for one that is low in VOC's to cut down the odor when you put it on. Since the degree of color enhancement can vary greatly between different types and colors of stone (and even different brands of enhancer), I would suggest that you buy a small container or two and test them on a scrap piece (or if you don't have any scrap, on an inconspicuous spot) to see if you like the effect. Also, a quick way to get an idea of what it will look like is to moisten a section of the stone with water - typically the moistened stone is what it will look like after the enhancer is applied....See More??? on Stone Enhancers for tumbled marble backsplash
Comments (6)Hi, Thanks for your quick response and help. I think he (Jim) used Aquamix to seal the tumbled marble because that is what his store sells. But going to the Aquamix web site, there are a bunch of sealers. I know he used the oil based Aquamix sealer when he installed my granite but I don't know exactly which Aquamix sealer he used when he put in my backsplash (I wasn't there when he sealed it). I plan to call him on Monday and ask him about the backsplash sealer. Jim who installed my backsplash, was also my fabricator for the marble bathroom vanity counter top and my kitchen granite. It is a family owned tile/stone store started by his granfather. He volunteered to install my tile when he was putting in my granite. He said he was a tile installer for years before becoming a fabricator, but his knees gave out. Now he said he has problems with his back. Clearly OT and adds very little to my problem at hand. But I guess my point is that I thought he was pretty reputable and this is why I trusted him for the job. Thanks again for your help! Karen...See MoreFireplace - Before and After
Comments (4)Thanks so much!! DH wants something like a barn beam, rustic yet elegant - not too rustic. We are putting in 3" hand scraped maple flooring. Here is a pic of a few pieces that we took out to see. I think that we will have to DIY a mantle. The measurements are too large and costs too high. The mantle itself is 8'1" long as is. We may use the enhancer a little more on the mortar on the one side - it seems to appear lighter than the other. But overall - we are extremely happy. it is so o much warmer to look at and I love the colors that it brings out. Thanks again everyone. Ruth...See MoreUse Enhancer on stone backsplash?
Comments (8)(I say train the 2 yr old to pee outside and potty train the puppy!). janefan-- I've got a funny story about that! I'm originally from Connecticut, and 25 years ago, I had inlaws up here in Maine that we used to come up and visit during the summer. Now, when we'd come up and visit, my brother in law and his family only had running water in the sink, and still used a "privvy" (Outhouse). At the time our kids were all boys, under the age of 3, so being that the closest neighbor was about 2 miles down the road, we told them just to pee off the back porch. Well, we came back down from vacation this one summer-- we'd moved out of our apartment, and were waiting one more week after we got back to close on our first home, during which time, we were staying with my sister and her husband in a very nice "yuppy" neighborhood in Milford. We got up that first morning (a beautiful spring sunday) and my son got up, not giving it a second thought, marched right past us, rubbing his eyes, out to the back porch to go pee!! Obviously, with the situation a little different, my sister just looked at us like we had two heads, and I had to run out there and let him know that we don't do that any more, while my wife sat there and explained things to my sister! Even my sister laughs now when we look back at it, but she wasn't laughing too much that day!! :-)...See Morevineyard
