it's par for the course. my granite was cut two inches too short at a seam where mybappliance garage will be. plus my granite is has lots of color and movement so it's not like they could just cut another piece. in fact after trying several pieces, we went to another stone yard and found an almost exact match color and pattern wise. everything happens for a reason. because of the mishap the new piece matches better color wise, and the seam which would have been a color and somewhat of a pattern match, will now be an exact match because the new piece of granite is wider allowing for not having to piece it. plus we now have a matching piece for the buffet we are having custom built.

relax, laugh about it, and realize soon enough you'll have a perfect kitchen.

I'm so sorry to hear about this hiccup! No advice to give, but you definitely have my sympathy and best wishes for a speedy resolution!

Like flwrs, I have no granite advice, but wanted to send along my sympathies. I can only imagine your frustration, especially when you are so close to being finished. Is it normal to have the templating done by someone other than the installer? I've not heard of that before, but maybe I just wasn't paying attention since I'm so far from that point in my own kitchen.

I know I would be furious. Cpartist said this is par for
the course. Not for me. Truly not at all. My
installers/fabricators did a perfect job. I can not imagine
what you are going through. Now you have to wait longer!!
Terrible.

Do you have to cancel your weekend guests? Is it possible
to go out to dinner with them and enjoy a glass of wine
and some non kitchen talk to get you back to happy again?
It is so frustrating when you make plans and then because
of some incompetent fool you are stuck trying to rearrange
everything.

I hope in a few days you can take a deep breath and find
a little humor in this mess.

Oh, my plans will NOT be ruined! We intend to have several drinks at a nice local upscale Indian restaurant and ignore the house for a few hours :)

As for the installation. They guy who did the templating does work for the fabricator, as does the installer. They are all one and the same. Just different people doing different parts of the jobs.

BTW, it's Ceasarstone, Jerusalem Sand, which went in and the two pieces they left in look beautiful. One other thing which did bother me was we had discussed whether or not to do a 4" backsplash on it, and I nixed the idea with my KD. When I got home yesterday lo and behold, the backsplash was there.

Now, I'm hoping I didn't pay for this, because I didn't ask for it. And, second, now that I see it I'm not so sure I even like it. I had it with my granite and thought it looked fine but for some reason with the Ceasarstone I'm not liking it as much (maybe because my back wall is unfinished still and it seems like it's over powering the space).

Anyway, I tried taking pix just now but the lighting at 6:30 am in my kitchen isn't great, even with all my overheads on plus I didn't realize how grungy the toaster oven door was lol. So, I'll take more when I get home later on and post them in a separate thread.

Sorry to hear of others woes - I sure have read enough about them here. I actually spoke to my old boss yesterday, who told me his counter never even made it off the sidewalk hahaha! He noticed right away that the sink cut-out was wrong (he's an architect) so he told them to put it right back on the truck :)

sivyaleah! I'm so sorry to hear of the trouble you are having. I started out trying to stick with my Silestone fabricator for the entire kitchen. Mistake number one. I had to go through 3 slabs of Antique Brown Granite for my center island and waiting an extra month and a half. We ended up switching fabricators to the one my GC normally uses. Meanwhile, for my daughters graduation, we kept the temporary plywood top and actually it all turned out great.

Then, the Silestone fabricator, cut the 2 slabs of Silestone wrong so that there was not enough left for the desk area. He tried to convince me that 3 seams in the desk would be fine. Not so much. He did end up getting a third slab for me, which had more contrast in it and did not match the rest of the counters, but it ended up looking all right since the desk was set at a different height.

Anyway, just letting you know, I can really empathize with you. It can be so frustrating! I'm glad it sounds like you have several people in your camp to help you get it all straightened out. It will all work out in the end and you will have a beautiful kitchen!

How frustrating!

When we were renovating, errors themselves didn't piss me off - things happen, and true professionals will correct their mistakes. But what infuriated me was when an error was made, and the carpenter/architect/master plumber would say of the worker, "oh yeah, he's done that before...I can't believe he did that again....I've warned him about this again and again...." THAT sort of error strikes me as an almost contemptuous disregard of my project. "We're too lazy to find someone better, so we'll give her the incompetent guy and keep our fingers crossed." GRRRRR. Hopefully the anger expressed by you and your KD will translate into the counter people not using that templater again.

My neighbor and I each bought close-out granite from HD. It was cheaper than formica! His installer broke one 8' piece (defective, he claimed), and then cut the sink hole 1/2" too big - then just left.
He finally tore out the granite and had a company put in new granite. So, he wasted $800, then had to spend $2500 for new.
We are waiting for new cabinets to magically appear before we install ours. They remain in a crate in the garage...

Update - the fabricator's rep got involved and raised a racket too.

Fabricator coming to my house tomorrow morning (Saturday) to reinstall, first thing in the morning.

I'm thrilled. I may not have running water until next week unfortunately, but at least the counter will be in, and I can put more things into the cabinets/onto the counter, and get them out of the boxes sitting in the dining room before my company arrives. I might even be able to get the dining table set up which would make me extremely pleased.

Now, the big question will be if the faucet will fit with the backsplash they gave me by mistake. They are NOT charging me for it, since they did it in error but we're all concerned if it's going to be ok since they never saw the faucet. If not, away it goes. I'm kind of crossing my fingers it works at this point, since I have no idea what I'm doing for a tile backsplash yet at all and having this will at the very least help somewhat for the short term. In my old house, I never wound up tiling the wall - I did wall paper in the end so who knows...

sivyaleah I'm glad yours is going to work out. My new piece was installed today and it's better than what would have been installed initially. And yes, it does help to commiserate. When my kitchen is done, I'll post and I hope you do too.
