Please tell me about your slate counters

Hi all,

Still planning, planning. Currently thinking grey-beige island with BB top, and mahogany perimeters (with sliding leaded glass cupboard doors) and charcoal/black slate countertops.

I like the even texture and coloration of slate. I've heard that if you get a hard slate mined in New England it should be fine and not delaminate -- true? I'm waiting for a quote from Sheldon Slate. I was surprised when they said their slate counters are usually 1" but they can do 1 1/4".

Have also been looking at soapstone but from the collective posts here I have formed an impression that slate may be stronger and have less risk of dings and forming water rings -- any feedback regarding this?

Would love to hear from people who have slate counters -- - -
