Kitchen recessed lights - brand, size, type? Need help please
Comments (11)I used the Ecosmart 4 in LED also. Best price I could find last month was $159/4 on HD online. The 6 in ones you can get for $27 in store, but 4 in hasn't seen that drop yet, unless it was very recent. I got my cans from a local lighting store where I bought a few lights. They gave me contractor pricing. I think because I was buying 10 and a bunch of other stuff. I stopped in a few times and they were super helpful. I ended up with a mixed lot of some Quarum and some Quoizel. They were under $15 each. The Quoizel were much easier to work with going in, the guys noticed a definite difference in ease of adjusting and the screw system was easier than the Quorum nail system. Haven't had any of the lights installed yet, but hopefully the end of next week. They just put up the new ceiling drywall today....See MorePlease HELP! Questions about Cabinet Brands for galley kitchen
Comments (13)That sounds a bit expensive but not wildly unreasonable; I have just finished a galley kitchen that is 7.5ft wide and 14 ft long (was 12ft before we opened up a wall.) I priced frameless cabinets from Cabico Espresso, all drawers in the lowers, and the not-quite-everything total was around $9k; I comparison shopped Innermost (frameless also) at Home Depot and it was slightly more expensive. I also used the Ikea planner to mock up layouts so I could gauge the price there, and it was in line with what the previous posters suggested. In the end, we used Diamond cabinets (a very mid-range brand) because of the contractor we chose; they're not frameless but we're very happy with them. I don't know the specific price because the cabinets got wrapped into the price for all the work, which included a lot of other expenses like moving plumbing on a slab and opening up a load-bearing wall. Bottom line is that cabinets are probably the biggest expense in doing a kitchen, other than labor if you mess about with the layout like we did. By comparison the granite/quartz estimates seemed like a bargain! I don't think I anticipated this when I started contemplating what to do to our kitchen, and like you the numbers sort of shocked me. I spent more time as a result, figuring out a layout that made the costs feel more worthwhile. If you want to see some beautiful galley kitchens, google kitchen reveals by @yesdear and @brooklyngalley and @erhm, among many others including the ones posted above. Oh, and also @marthavila and @histokitch, two of my all-time favorite kitchens irrespective of size. I've linked below a google search for galley kitchen reveals on Gardenweb which should turn up some of the above. Comments (9)Wow love both the decora and the Kraftmaid - My DW and I were considering very similarly styled Kraftmaid cabs. We ended up going with these unique kitchen cabinets based on traditional Japanese cabinetry. Green Tea Design is a small company that is close to us here in Toronto (Canada), but they apparently ship stuff all over North America as there was an American couple who had driven up from New York discussing their kitchen remodel the first time we went it to take a look. The cabinets are free standing, so they don't have quite the same flexibility as completely custom built in cabs, but they were able to make them to our exact size specifications. Price wise they come in very cheap on the scale - some added costs for the custom sizes we wanted, but not much. Also nice that they're made from reclaimed wood. I'm not too good with computers but hopefully I can figure out getting some pictures up - seeing so many amazing kitchens here all the time makes me want to share my own (which is nearly done now)....See MorePlease help with choosing kitchen cabinets
