Lynw, your question is very timely for me. Our cabinets were delivered two weeks ago and the installers haven't completed their work yet because we're missing a cab door and the glass doors and shelves still need to be delivered. We've been inspecting the cabs carefully. We ordered maple doors with a cream finish. Our KD did warn us that if we don't go with MDF, hairline cracks will eventually show because that's the nature of painted wood. We are fine with that. In my mind, the key word is "eventual". I am not fine with seeing it right away. One of the upper cab doors in our pantry area has an hairline crack and I'm going to ask that it gets replaced. I also noticed that there is a splinter on one side of our island. I want that changed as well. Our installer did a great job with the moulding, etc., except for one thing: he left a seam running at the top of our moulding, which could have so easily been hidden. We are patiently waiting for our installation to be completed. Overall we are pleased with the kitchen, we like the installer and I gave positive feedback to our KD (who did a great job - no issues with the specs). At the same time, I've been struggling these last few days wondering how "demanding" I should be. Except for that seam on the top moulding, the issues I have are with the cabinet manufacturer, not the installer or KD. We are going to point these things out. I don't care how "picky" we seem - we spent too much money to be cavalier with the final product.

I agree you should get your doors ASAP. There is a FAQ about the SEKTION switchover on the IKEA US web site. IKEA says there is an 8-month window for support of AKURUM after Feb 2. It states: "You will be able to complete your AKURUM kitchen plan and purchase your AKURUM kitchen until February 1, 2015. However, it would be in your best interest to purchase your AKURUM kitchen as soon as possible as we will have a fixed amount of AKURUM stock available and will only be able to fulfill orders while supplies last. We will offer service (from February 2, 2015 until October 1, 2015; while supplies last) to handle replacement pieces or damages for AKURUM kitchens that are in the process of being delivered or installed." I remembered a bit of info about the sofa. The original design has a love seat extension on the right angle end, like most sectionals have. But I didn't want that much sofa and ordered just a single seat to add on to the curved section. That made it a custom order and bumped up the already formidable price (gulp). But I was afraid that a love seat extension would cut off access to the room's corner and make it dead space. And I didn't really want leather, but couldn't see paying for a nice piece of cloth upholstery that kitty would turn into a scratching post. She didn't scratch an old leather sofa we used to have, so I shut my eyes & wrote a check for the kitty-resistant leather sectional. It's probably the last sofa I'll ever buy. My DIL was with me when I picked it out. I told her that I hope she likes it, because she's inheriting it when I kick the bucket!

I'm just going to say this in case - the wide Domsjö is two bowl sink. It never came any other way. Sektion has standard sized drawer fronts. Buy an extra 36" wide taller drawer front just in case you need it - you can always send it back. Sektion and Akrum cabinets had different sizes of drawer fronts. Stop by the kitchen area and ask about issues with installing the Domsjö sink in a Sektion cabinet. The Domsjö should come with replacement metal bar for the front & bar edges. The front metal bar takes the place of the top bar on the front and the back. You might need to cut down the back panel to fit under the bar. We did a simple reinforcement of the cabinet by adding plywood across the back on the inside of the cabinet under the bar and then attached the official cabinet back to the ply. Given a choice, I would buy ANY other white farmhouse sink and undermount kit. Eventho it's hundreds more. In our case, the sink wasn't quite deep enough - there was a wide gap between the sink and the wall in the back that was plugged with two tons of caulk. In the end, I named the sink the Rain of Terror because it dripped water everywhere and rotted the Ikea wood counter. If you use someone else's sink in an ikea cabinet, know that you may need to cut the cabinet top back as shown in @sh's photo because a 36" wide undermount sink is 36" wide at the front or near to it. The sink maker has an undermount kit (usually) that amounts to metal bars with screws under the sink. The bars stretch across the cabinet from side to side. Then, use your "extra" drawer front and carefully cut it to fit the front.
