Hey all Here is a closer look at the cabinet-tile-granite intersection on the other side. Also, the extraction hood is white as it has the protective film still on it. I guess the oven had blue film on on vs the white on the hood - the hood underneath is stainless steel. Thanks for all the opinions - agree with most that we are leaning to the white but also know we have ROYALLY screwed up on the cool/warm tone mixture. More thoughts welcomed... just not sure if we should now grout white or choose another tile all together. We are obviously not good interior designers :( We considered the following tile - but that would involve ripping out the current one, a change order and the cost of the new tile. Again more thoughts welcomed :(

Whoops, don't know how that got posted twice. Yes, that pattern is from the Biltmore line, but they seem to have several Biltmore variations so I don't know it that matches the squares. You can also uses two of three rows of the square tile, then the glass liner and the rest above it in that pattern. If you do use the squares and glass liner you can use that pattern on angle and do a glass liner framed diamond with the small square tiles replaced by matching green glass ones within that diamond. Those marble tile squares you have match perfectly to the granite and will pick up the green of the island and tie it all together. That granite also has some beiges that will also pick up those in that marble and the green is also stunning with your floor color. Are you beams wood or painted?

Thank you all for your input. Why do we obsess over these things? Blondelle- I agree with you on going for the cleaner look for the reasons you mentioned, but am trying to make DH happy too. He would be happy with a rainbow for a backsplash (in various patterns and sizes), so I am going for a compromise with the somewhat muted colors. jules1906- the walls are pretty long and while I love that tile, I am also thinking it might be a bit much over the full length of the room. I am leaning toward the onyx. I had not heard of using this for a kitchen backsplash until reading postings on this great website. I guess this is becoming more common? palimpsest, For the past few hours I've been staring at Wilsonart's SOLICOR color Calcutta Marble, but I have discovered that the "Solicore" feature appears to be a fiction. Wilsonart's website states: "Wilsonart® SOLICOR™ is a specialty laminate created with a solid color core that lets you design visually crisp and stunning spaces by eliminating the disruptive brown line at the edges." This photo clearly shows that Calcutta Marble color is not solid all the way through, even though their website says it is, and edges do in fact show brown lines: Flat cut showing ugly brown lines. Flat cut showing ugly brown lines. Formica also has the "COLOR2CORE" but it's a lie also. Their website says: "Classic flat edge. Your laminate countertops will have the traditional 90-degree flat edges that show a brown line between the top sheet and the edge. The exception to this is solid core laminate that has color throughout, like COLORCORE®2 by Formica Group. You’ll still have the flat edge, but no brown line." I have found images on their website that they use to illustrate a lack of brown edge but it's still there. This link has a section "ColorCore®2 Color-Through Laminate Patterns" and a picture of a large white counter to the right which clearly shows brown lines. On the other hand, apparently it's possible somehow to eliminate the brown lines because this picture from Houzz claims to use an edge called "Aegean" which does not show any brown lines, but I can't find anything about that edge on Formica's website.
