Livingstone vs Corian vs LG HiMac
Comments (3)Hi raggiemom, I also did quite a bit of research before I purchased my Livingstone countertop. I had it installed right before Thanksgiving, so I don't have a lot of wear and tear information. I have four grown sons though and they don't pay much attention to what they set down on it. I had Corian in my last house and I do believe this will prove to be comparable. Have you seen the Livingstone website? www.livingstonesurfaces.com The price as you say, was not that much of a difference that I wouldn't have purchased the Corian if I really felt like this was not a good product. I really did like the color choices too. I don't think you will be disappointed. Hope this helps....See Morecountertop durability: quartz, granite, laminate, corian
Comments (7)Noting that we put in granite counters when we reno'd the kitchen, I still have to plug laminate. Our laminate was installed in 1971 and I'm pretty sure it was never actual Formica. It was white. Not only did we do lots of cooking and baking on it, we also used the peninsula for a myriad of arts and crafts projects. All the little dresses and shorts and quilts were made there. I clamped my wood carving project to the counter and chiseled away right there in the kitchen! After 40 years I had exactly 2 tiny chips in 47 sq. ft. of counter and no stains. A little 409 or whatever and a sponge took everything right out: red paint, cranberry juice, tumeric, anything. Right at the end we had a bit of de-lamination on the vertical piece right next to the stove. We also had a couple of edge chips from DW installation (the floor got higher over the years). On the day we ripped it out it was as pristinely white as it was when we moved in in 1974. Talk about a workhorse! We did put in granite and I love it, but I would have no problem installing laminate again. In your case because you have an entire tribe of kiddos who might not be as careful as your are, I would give it real consideration. Granite is good, quartz is good, but it's possible that laminate might be best in your case....See MoreMSI Quartz vs Corian
Comments (15)Joe, cor rectangle me if I'm wrong but it seems like some of the countees that mimic Dupont's Corian may be inferior. DH's aunt had the Menard's brand with integrated sink installed about ten years ago. Granted this lady is a serious gardner, canner, baker and sells all of her wares, but the sink looks bad. The edges of the sink almost looks like thr top layer is wrinkled and peeling. I wonder if people reporting on bad 'Corian' are mostly looking at other brands because it seems like everyone has one now. Having said that I'm not a fan of the look, but it does seem to be a durable surface....See MoreNeed advice for appliance placement!
Comments (35)Cheryl Smith - It definitely was a spontaneous project. We had been looking at this house for nearly a year and finally got it. I knew it would need some fixing up but didn’t know we would take on so much more than the initial “new carpet, new paint.” My FIL used to be a contractor And built some gorgeous homes in his day before he became a pastor. Also my uncle has some experience working with homes in those areas where calamitous events (floods, hurricanes and tornadoes) occur. Both are giving lots of help to our house and so they are addressing areas now versus down the road. It’s nice but of course extends the project. Their help has saved us some money which is awesome. So, to me, I didn’t think we had jumped the gun when we ripped out our kitchen its old junky cabinets and appliances. I knew we could figure something out between my FIl and uncle. I thought asking for some advice here here would be helpful. i didn’t realize there were certain expectations by some people when asking a question. You live and you learn....See Moredeeageaux
