Chrome or Brushed Nickel????
Comments (22)I have chrome fixtures in my 35+ year old bathroom. Still in perfect condition. I am in the planning stage of a bathroom remodel. I have brushed nickel hardware throughout my house, kitchen knobs, light fixtures, door knobs. So I was thinking of doing the same for the bathroom. Keeping everything matchy-matchy. However, the more I go to showrooms the more I see bathroom fixtures displayed in chrome. Now, I'm trying to decide between brushed nickel and chrome finishes for my faucets and fixtures, I like the shiny look of Chrome. But, notice brushed nickel hides fingerprints and water spots on my kitchen faucet. Something to consider. The problems with satin and brushed nickel however come in trying to match one “version” of satin nickel to another. Different manufacturers have different standards and processes for creating this finish and can make it difficult to create a uniformed look....See MoreBrushed Nickel Finishes on Faucet & Accessories
Comments (5)I mixed Moen sink and tub/shower faucets in brushed nickel with Restoration Hardware towel bars / rings in brushed nickel with Access Lighting stainless light fixture with Pottery Barn brushed nickel mirror. Honestly, while they certainly aren't exactly identical, they all seem to "go" just fine. As herring_maven says, rarely do you have two such items near enough to distinguish any differences. I even threw in some chrome into the mixture (shower curtain rod, cabinet pulls, toilet flush lever) and that doesn't bother me either. If you plan to have the items directly next to each other (less than 6" is probably a good rule), you'll probably want to see them side by side. Otherwise, you should be just fine to mix and match and not worry about it....See MoreSatin Nickel and Stainless next to each other?
Comments (18)The Kohler Wellspring is similar in design to the Newport. The main difference is the base - it doesn't have the curved body. It comes in brushed nickel, which is close to, if not the same, as satin nickel. No, it's not identical. If you want identical, I suggest looking for a different faucet - one that has a coordinating filtered water faucet. Here is a link that might be useful: Kohler Wellspring...See MoreHelp! Stainless steel VS brushed Nickel or other finish sink.
Comments (4)I have not seen a brushed nickel sink. And you say you see them the most along with stainless steel which I agree are commonly available. Do you have a link for a brushed nickel sink? I cannot comment on a brushed nickel sink, but I can tell you that all stainless steel sinks will scratch regardless of price. You can have a sink grid in the sink which will reduce the possibility of scratches. But many people don't like the grids cause they are one more thing to clean and deal with, with nooks and crannies for gunk. Many people just shrug their shoulders at the stainless scratches, because eventually they will all blend into a patina and you won't notice them. Other than the patina, stainless steel is tops in durability, assuming you get a thicker gauge like 16-gauge, which, as it turns out, is not more expensive than the thinner 18-gauge sinks if you shop wisely. Check out Kraus sinks sold at Overstock and other websites. If you are worried about scratches, you might want to look at different materials of sinks like enameled cast iron or Blanco Silgranit. What size is your sink cabinet base? That may limit your choices....See Morekatsmah
