Need to widen refrigerator cabinet opening JUST 1/8 inch
Comments (18)sherilynn, thank you for sharing your story! We couldn't stop laughing while we were reading your message, too. And then we were inspired with a similar solution. The short version of the solution: instead of baby power, we used Vaseline... and it worked like a charm! The long version: after considering all the alternative solutions, we decided to start with the one that needs the least expertise -- lubricating the surfaces. We thought that we'll be careful not to put too much force on it even with the lubricant on, so that we won't damage anything and if it doesn't work, we can still try other solutions. We don't have baby powder, so we thought of Vaseline, which should be safe for both surfaces even left on afterwards. We put Vaseline on both sides of the refrigerator and on both sides of the cabinet trim. We then used the same strength as we tried yesterday to slide the fridge in. When we reached the place where it stuck yesterday, we could still keep it moving, with just a little bit more strength. Finally, we were able to slide the fridge in all the way where it supposed to be. (It's not counter depth, so it does stick out, but we don't mind.) We also tried to see if we can pull it out easily and we couldï¼Â:D We then wiped the Vaseline from the sides of the fridge and the trims. Hopefully the Vaseline in the cabinet won't be a problem. We took some pictures and wanted to show you guys how it finally looks like. But I haven't figured out how to post images on this forum. :( I am glad that I came to this forum for help. Not only we found a way to solve the problem, more importantly, we got multiple replies so fast and every message is very informative! We also learned other solutions that might be helpful in the future. Many thanks to all of youï¼Âï¼Âï¼Â...See MoreIs 45 inches of upper cabinets for dishes and glasses enough?
Comments (11)I have a 42" cabinet with 2 full sets of dishes -- one for 8 and the other for 12 on the lower 2 shelves and serving bowls and other pieces on the upper 2 shelves (more than I need, but too hard to part with). My everyday glasses and stemware are in the 15" cabinets on eithr side of my hutch. If I had fewer bowls, I could put them on one shelf of the wider cabinet and still have one shelf for serving pieces, but I like them displayed it he hutch....See More8 Foot Ceilings with Double Stacked Upper Cabinets?
Comments (6)Are your base cabinets 35" including your counter, or prior? Most are 34.5 before counter. Are you doing custom cabinets? If so you could do 29" tall cabs with 12" stacked, 4" crown, 16" backsplash with 35" lowers/countertop. I have 108" ceiling, with 6" worth of crown and 18" worth of space between uppers and counters. My cabinets are 18" stacked on 30". I really wouldn't want a cabinet smaller than 18" storage-wise, but aesthetically 12" might be fine. I wouldn't do 8". Here's mine. My three double cabinets are 26" wide each. The shorter you make the uppers the narrower they need to be IMO or you end up with squatty doors....See MoreUpper cabinet width - how wide is too wide?
Comments (29)cpartist, I did, I don't like the style. I wanted white and they're all too modern looking for my 1926 bungalow. Janelle Van, look at the comments above, one had a link for a sagulator. If you can look at the specs for Ikea's cabinets and see what material the shelves are made of and how thick they are, you can see how much weight you can put on it before there's noticeable sag. Very helpful! latifolia, the new ones are 36" plus 4" crown. There's going to be about a foot between the crown and the ceiling. I'm okay with it. I need a large step stool to reach anything in my top cabinets now and I'm adding 8 cabinets on the other side of the kitchen where there are currently 0. Way more than enough storage!...See Moreartemis78
