Shiloh vs. Showplace for inset
Comments (3)A bit late in the game to help I'm suspect, but Showplace did a complete-revision to their inset pricing in early 2011 which resulted in prices being slashed by anywhere from 16-20% (depending on style selections). Since you already have a Shiloh quote, there is no harm in entertaining another bid or two using different brands. There is promotional pricing in place right now too, so be sure to ask your dealer about that too. Comments (1)From the Showplace website: Showplace paint grade cabinet doors and five-piece drawer headers have a solid fine-grain hardwood frame. Center panels and slab headers are of Medium Density Fibercore (MDF), which is an engineered wood product. Face frames and moldings are solid hardwood, and painted end panels are hardwood ply. All other construction details are the same as other Showplace cabinetry... I think that 'slab headers' are slab style drawer fronts. If that is the case, I'd personally opt to upgrade to 5 piece top drawers...wood vs mdf. Top drawers, especially, seem to take a beating and are more susceptible to getting splashed on/ wet....See Morewhich is more expensive elmwood or showplace inset??
Comments (3)I recently received quotes from several cabinet companies for inset cabinetry. The plans were my own which I submitted exclusively for bid, I did not ask for design help so we should have been comparing apples to apples. Unfortunately, not all of the "designers" read my emails very thoroughly so they didn't always bid what I asked them to. However, to give you a general idea...I'll list them least expensive to most expensive. 1 Jim Bishop Inset 2 Showplace Inset 3 Gepetto Inset 4 Omega Inset (I'd ask for a quote on Dynasty, but was given omega) 5 Greenfield Inset Jim Bishop was less than Showplace by a couple of thousand....See MoreChange of Plans with Cabinet line. Kahle vs Shiloh. No Medallion UGH
Comments (1)Just wanted to pipe in and say I have Kahle oak cabinets c. 1997 and they have worn like iron. No problems with the finish. No malfunctions of slides, no blown out hinges - everything still works like the day they were installed. Now, ours were their opening grade so no high end slides or hinges, but they work great, smooth, and have lasted under family use all these years with no apparent aging! We got ply boxes, melamine coated interiors (I preferred these for wipe-downs), real oak veneer end surfaces. (Never get the non-wood veneer, as it ages and discolors at a different rate than your natural wood will so will look awful in a few years relative to the real wood surfaces.) Whatever finish they used back then on stained wood was very robust. One great thing about them is they make the SAME things, decades later. I went to a showroom to inquire about a replacement door (2013) and could special order the exact door I needed because they use classic profiles. They were a great value for the pricepoint....See MoreRudebekia
