I have a 32" sink base and a 30" undermounted sink, so it looks like you could pretty much mount a bathtub in there!

We have the Blanco Silgranit Super Single. I think it is 30 inches interior width, an our cabinet is 36 inches wide.

We lovelovelove this sink. I love that I can soak a large roasting pan or my giant Le Creuset pot.

Oh, and btw, it's not your eyes, the picture is out of focus, for some strange ailen reason. (And the faded parts on the sink are really just light coming from the outside.) This sink is beautiful.

I love my 30" sink also. I've always wanted a sink that would accommodate large pans; now I have one! Nine inches deep, too. I know a lot of people love their doubles, but I really like having one giant bowl.

I too have a 42" sink base cabinet and planning to use a 37" Blanco Farm style, SS, undermount sink. My cabinet maker said this is no problem.

Do you think this sink will seem too big???

Thirty-seven inches? I'm in awe. That's one biiiiiig sink. I mean, that's really big.

But if you have space scaled for it, it should look quite fine.

30" sink here in a 36" sink base cab. I think we might have even been able to fit the 33" (if they'd notched the cab or something?).

It's the Grohe Ladylux Cafe, in chrome.

One thing about the really large Silgranite sinks. I would recommend you do what I didn't. I would advise you to buy it locally, as much as is possible. I'm in CA and I bought the sink from a website based in CT, and the sink you see in the picture is the third one they sent. The first two had small cracks from one side flange down into the bowl about two inches. Actually the second one had the exact same crack in the exact same placement, so I would not be surprised if they sent me back the first one.

If you have to get it shipped, try to look for the closest source.

Anyway, even the third one had a "stress" crack on the under side of one of the flanges, but it was underneath, didn't go all the way through, and it was only about three-quarters of an inch. We reinforced it (I don't know with what, DH did it - some silicone putty of some sort he found at the hardware store). But that was two years ago, and the sink has been great. With my old sink I hadn't noticed how many times I drop things while my hands are wet and slippery. Since I've had my beautiful sink, I notice every drop - cringe when I do - but never see any mark whatsoever.

I may be completely insane, but I found the Kohler Harborview on eBay for about half of the best online price (and about 25% of the MSRP on the Kohler site). I had lusted after this sink ever since I saw it on display at a Ferguson's, but never imagined we could afford it. So I abandoned all pretense at wisdom and grabbed it. We're redesigning the island to accommodate the monster -- it's 48" x 28" x 15-1/16"!! I have visions of being able to dock the pots from an entire Thanksgiving dinner out of sight in the sink (behind the raised eating-serving counter) and visit with friends and family!

That would be Thanksgiving of 2008, of course.... if I'm lucky!!

I have a 32" undermount single prep sink in a 33" base in my island. I also have a 56" drop-in commercial 3-section sink in a 63" base, for the same reason as Trilby, hiding dishes during huge family and fundraising dinners.

What's insane about that? If you guys have long enough arms to make it work, and you guys can find it in your price range.....I think it's gorgeous and you should not think twice about it.

Shouldn't you go for something that inspires you? Something that says, "that is me, and that is mine, and I'm the gal/guy who bought it."

Shezzy: Thought it might have been a Grohe. How did you make your decision between the Cafe style and Ladylux Plus? They both look pretty much the same. Nice faucets - will probably get one or the other! Re the Blanco super sink: this sink will actually be shipped to Hawaii, so now your story along with a few others is making me more nervous about the risks of cracks, etc. I need more reassurance! Thanks for your input.

Kulagal, it was a pretty easy decision for me because I wanted a "pull down" faucet instead of a "pull out" faucet. And I just loved the curve of the neck.

I think if you go to a local Plumbing Supply retail store near you you will have better luck, or recourse, with possible damage issues then if you independently ordered online or over the phone from a mainland source. I still think the Silgranite is worth it, if one of your local companies carries it, and hasn't had enough shipping damage issues to discontinue carrying it. Ask them about it.

Trilby23, make sure you have the island designed to accomodate that splash rise in the back. Seems like it would have to be more of a half-wall situation than what I consider a true island.

I have a 30" sink and find it large enough. I'm happy with it, but I would not give up any more counterspace. We were torn on whether we would go 30 or 36" if we did a farmhouse, but DH really didn't like the apron fronts that much and I wasn't convinced I wouldn't tire of it in 5-10 years, so we went standard undermount. I love the undermount and not having to wipe anything over or around a rim.

39" Franke 1 3/4 - I love this sink & FYI I bought it on the web and had it shipped to Hawaii. I also had my faucet shipped to Hawaii. I didn't have any trouble with damage, more with finding suppliers who were willing to ship to me. Local suppliers totally gouge, best I could do locally was 10% off of MSRP. On the web, I got about 50% off + shipping. Even with shipping it was waaaaaaaaaay cheaper and faster because most places I wanted to buy from, still had to order and that took six weeks - buy online, I got most everything within one week.

shezzy -- I do love my sink, but I keep second-guessing myself and thinking, "That's an awfully big hunk of counter to give up," just as lascatx said. I appreciate the congrats!!!

lascatx -- Thanks for the heads-up about the island design! We've always planned to have a raised, bar-height counter at the back of the island for eating and serving, I'm assuming it will accommodate the integral backsplash. :-)

Kailuamom: is your sink SS? Shipping may be a bit easier on SS than the Silgranit sinks. But thanks for the tip on shipping to Hawaii. My architect continues to tell me that general contractors don't like it when you order stuff yourself and really discourage you from doing it. The excuse is that supposing something arrives damaged then it's your problem not his. But they charge at least 5% over the price (which is probably way more than what I could get online) that it's really silly not to get some of this stuff yourself. Thanks again!

I'm surprised. My GC told me to let him order some stuff that he got a contractor's discount on. (I've forgotten exactly what, although I believe our subway tile was one?) There were things that he said would cost him the same as they'd cost me, so I ordered those, and others that cost him less than they cost me, so he ordered those.

Ask him about the contractor's discount. See what he says.

Oh, kulagal, alas I have no prep sink, unless you count the utility sink out in the garage. If I did have a prep sink I think I'd actually go with another pull down faucet, so as to spray bits of veggies peelings off the side of the sink - and I love the cafe style that I don't know if I'd go with anything different. But then again, I didn't get to go shopping for that one, neither.

You're right my sink is SS, Silegrant may be difficult. Personaly, I found that the local businesses were always discouraging me from doing things differently than what they're used to. My KD didn't like it at first until she started seeing the goods come in. Both KD and GC got good with it quick when they saw my light fixtures in a week not six for half the cost, faucet, garbage disposal, UC lights all waiting and perfect and for half price. I bought a bunch of rev a shelf stuff too, I would probably let the cab co do that next time (it was a hassle).

If you're in Kula - then you pay even higher prices at the local suppliers than I did on Oahu. Does your GC buy on Oahu and have stuff sent on the barge?

Kailuamom: we are still in the design phase of our house so I haven't had to deal with the GC yet. Our architect wants me to choose all this stuff by March so he can present a list to the GC to get an idea of how much everything is going to cost to figure out building costs. The whole thing frightens me to say the least. I would imagine that a lot of things will be ordered via Honolulu and brought over by barge or the new Super Ferry!
