Is there any problems using the stainless steel sink in a remodel

I have popcorn ceiling , tile floor butting to a wood floor in the kitchen and old particle board kitchen cabinets.
Do you think it is wise to test the pop corn for asbestos before removal although home was built in early 80's.
Can I reuse the staines steel sink ? The sink is an undermount installation. I thought just changing the basket would be the best in cost savings.

Asbestos was banned in the late 70's, so you're likely safe.

You can always reuse materials like a sink, but they tend to look even older and more beat-up when surrounded by new materials.

Stainless steel sinks can be refinished. They look like new when I do it. I'd only keep it if it were a deep quality sink though.

My Shaws sink is 10 years old. I had the white grid for about 8 years. Some of the white material starting coming off and it starting rusting in those spots. It did show discoloration. I used bleach about once a month (very dilute) in the sink and that cleaned it up pretty well. I just recently felt it was time to replace the grid and got a new SS one from Amazon. I thought the SS would solve all of the problems. It still gets "gunky" at the intersections. A blackish gunk. So it has to be cleaned frequently as well. The alternative is no grid which is not a good alternative. I didn't have a grid for the first couple years and the bottom of the sink got a few chips. White looks better imho. As far as wear and care...its six of one and half dozen of another.

Thank you all so much! I am relieved to know the streaks will go away in time if I cannot get them out. Having granite installed, and getting an under mount sink is all new to me. The 2nd installer (long story, but all resolved now), did say to wipe the sink with warm soapy water after he wiped it down with the acetone. I know it was acetone, because I watched him do it, and the can said Acetone on it. No mistaking that smell either! When the soapy cloth didn't work, I thought the sink was damaged. I contacted the sink manufacturer yesterday. It took them a day to answer, and they in fact recommended Bar Keepers Friend (the liquid one). I read through the advice here often, and have learned so much. Thank you all for responding.

Thank you for all your opinions. @Patricia. As it turns out, we are doing a Bosch dishwasher and a samsung microwave, but the refrigerator, range and hood are GE Profile. After much scouring of the internet I actually found the exact application I was looking to do with the GE range I'm looking at with a hood from a different brand. What do those of you with the trained design eye think?

I have this sink in the low-divide 60/40 configuration. As with many more contemporary sinks that have the squarer design, there is not enough slant to the drain. I used to have an older Elkay in my old home and this was not an issue. I like the more contemporary design, but I find this somewhat annoying. I imagine this may be a problem with all sinks of this design.

My husband schools me when I mess up the subject verb agreement. The title should say " Are there any problems........."

Thanks for posting. As simple as my question is it made me think to search the forums on other sinks issues which revealed that there are several manufacturers of sinks, weight of material, and design options.
I appreciate that you took the time to post and also notice that you post frequently on this board.
I think I will pull the sink and rub barkeeper's friend.
Since the cabinets are particle board I would not be surprised if the sink is cheap too.

I haven't had time to post lately but when I saw a stainless steel question I felt compelled!

Go at it with Scotchbrite like Trebruchet suggested! I did that on a stainless steel countertop (well, more like a big cutting board, reall). It can seriously help. The worst that can happen is that you don't like the outcome and you end up getting a new sink anyway, right?

(ps. actual lol at "go mideval on that sink" - true and hilarious)
