Try an on line search. I was able to find a honed marble subway for 7 sq ft on line, vs 17 in the tile store.

Walker Zanger was around 18 something a sq foot - that was their Heirloom sub but I bought some of their Gramercy last year and it was a similar - maybe lower. If you are using a contractor to do your tile work they can get it at a lower cost...sometimes you must charm (or beg!) for them to not markup but my experience has been if you are paying for install they won't mark up materials.

Did you like anything at Subway Ceramics? I think they sell 2x6 in addition to standard 3X6.

Hi Sconde! I saw your post on my finished kitchen thread. Yes, I have the exact same sonoma krazy krackle tile. I think my price was $18.90 a sf. A few places quoted $26 too, but I kept searching.

I got it from Mediterranean Tile in Fairfield, NJ.

Good luck! I had a hard time finding 2x6 subways. Although Ann sachs had some really nice choices for around the same price.

Bumping this because I would love to hear of other good sources for good prices on Walker Zanger and Sonoma. I was quoted $23 SF locally for Gramercy Park and am hoping to find a better price.

Positano, thanks so much for the contact info. After calling all the dealers in Mass and the one in Rhode Island, I found one that quoted me $19.20 for the tile. Kinda crazy that it can range from 19 to 26 for the same tile. That would come out to roughly 729.60 but she quoted me 975.20. Would it cost over $250 in shipping? Husband is okay with the 19.20 price but have not let him know about the shipping. Why oh why can I not like something help. Does the shipping sound right. Any help appreciated.

I bought 3x6, but it also comes in 4 x4 and 2 x 8 (not 2 x 6) - Avalon Carpet and Tile in PA/NJ/DE sells a house brand of crackle glaze backsplash tile - it is machine made not hand made. Full retail is about 7.00/ft - contractor price was about 5.90/ft. If you can live with 3 x 6 or 2 x 8, it is nice looking.

I'm not sure about the shipping, but it could be that much. I would take a drive to RI and pick it up myself. How long could the drive be if your in Mass? 1 hour....1.5? Where are you? I grew up in Concord and lived in Boston for years.

I think with the sonoma tile it comes in from Ca. I picked mine up at the tile store and still had to pay $60 for them to ship it from CA.

Hello, thanks again for the help. We dont have a huge amount of backsplash and hubby said the 2 x 6 would be better than 3 x 6 which of course makes everything more expensive. Dont seem to find alot of 2 x 6 unless it is handmade which of course means $$$$$$. Found like 3 dealers of 2 x 6 (Sonoma, Trikeenan, Walker Zanger) and sonoma is cheaper, if $19sq foot is cheap:-(

Positano, I live south of Boston in New Bedford but will be moving to the burbs outside of NB. It is a new build home of which I have pretty much designed and bought everything on the web. Pretty crazy but we have twin babies and a 4 year old and my hubby is the GC of the home which is great for building but not so great when you have to pick things out and bring two babies plus another to the store so online shopping has been how I have done 90% of everything. The last time I brought all three to Home Depot I was ready to commit myself.
I would drive to RI if I could save on shipping but they are the ones who quoted $26 plus shipping. I cannot fathom $250 just on shipping that is crazy but I have to say I LOVE the tile and how it looks in your kitchen and so does hubby. I am a serious cook who cooks ALOT so will spend alot of time in there and dont really want to settle:-(
Dont know what to do if I should just bite the bullet or still keep looking.

Wow, you are one busy lady!! Why don't you call my person and see how much it would be to ship. With your schedule and having to take care of the kids I would probably just bite the buller.One thing I learned is to go with your gut. You will live with your kitchen for so long, and if you didn't get the tile you wanted for $250 more I bet you would regret it. Go with what you love!

If you do get the tile, since it is crackle it needs to be sealed. So easy to do, I used Miracle 511 and did it myself!Once before it was grouted and once after it was grouted. This stuff is great, I used it for the granite too.
Nothing will stain it.

Have you thought about Adex tile? I used the sand color from their Hampton collection. It's got the crackle glaze finish and is beautiful. I have it in the 2x8, which is somewhat similar to the 2x6. I don't have a large backsplash either and it really looks great. They carry several colors and I've found it between $9-$11 per sq. ft. Good luck!

We used this 2x6 from tileshop.com and I love it. It has a handmade look and the price is great. I'll see if I can post a pic.

Check Daltile's Rittenhouse Square. Most people know about their 3x6, but I'm about to start a restaurant tomorrow using their 2x6 (just over 1000 feet of it). I guarantee you their price will beat just about anyone else's. Not sure how much it is (I know it's more than the 3x6), but I guarantee you it's no 10.00 a foot.

Bill_Vincent - can you clarify about the Daltile Rittenhouse Square size of 2 x 6? Just a coincidence, but I was at a store TODAY selling that exact line, and I was looking for 2 x 6 tile for a subway backsplash. I want the tiles to be offset (is that called "brick pattern"?), not stacked. The store salesperson said the Rittenhouse Square came in 2 x 4 and 3 x 6, but that any 2 x 6 in that line is not for a brick pattern backsplash (huh?). So, did they tell me the wrong thing (I need to find another store selling it then), or can you interpret what they said? Thank you.

Juliet-- I'll let you know for sure tomorrow night. I'll be setting up the job tomorrow, and if I'm wrong (wouldn't be the first time) and it's the 2x4 tile we're using, i['ll find out and let you know. I'm pretty sure I was told 2x6, though, and I DO know for sure it's going in brick joint. Also, I was NOT told it was mounted, and on Dal's RS page, it shows the 2x4 tiles as coming in sheets. It does also show a 2x6 tile, but calls it a "shelf rail", whatever that is. it sure doesn't look like any kind of trim piece-- it looks like a flat field tile.

Hello, just wanted to update that I did get the 2 x 6 sonoma tile in krazy krackle. After all the places in massachusetts i finally found one great tile place who offered the tile for $20sq foot and only charget $85 to ship. Funny I had gotten another quote the same day and the comp charged $198 to ship. Crazy isnt it considering it is the same tile going to the same place.
Decided to get it for so many reasons but mainly because I just really love the way it looks and as mentioned spend so much time in the kitchen cooking that I think I do deserve to splurge a bit(not that the soapstone wasnt a splurge enough). I think it will look great and will fit my style so that I can add splashes of color in other ways.

As mentioned about 90% of new build house has been done by internet so hope this last purchase will be as positive as the rest...look forward to showing pics soon..we have waited 10 years for this so am soooo excited.

Yay! So happy you got it. Sometimes you just have to go with your gut. I used Laticrete grout from Lowes in Antique white. I think it came out perfect,not too light where you loose the definition and not too dark. That was a bill v recommendation.

Just remember about the sealing. I used Miracle 511, this stuff is great. I saved some money and did it myself. My tile guy had me wait a couple days after the tile went up, then I sealed it. Then he came back two days later and grouted, then I sealed it again. Now the water just beads right off of it.
