White cabinets, dark grey countertops - what color sink?

At first we were going to go with SS. But then I really like the look of the black Silgranit (and I like the size better than the SS one we had picked out). But now I'm worried that dark grey countertops with a black sink will look a little, I don't know, heavy. The dark grey is like a poured concrete (it's called Eco-Cem). Any thoughts on this?

I don't like stainless steel sinks, so I am biased. Isn't there a grey silgranite one? Check out the color of that one and see if it goes.

Hi Euphorbia, What color grey? Dark or light? Does your kitchen open to other rooms? You said Buttery Yellow. Yellow would look great. I have jet mist counters that are a dark charcoal grey color. I am in a similar situation. I love my tan camel coat paint by RL but I wonder if it really goes. My floor guy is coming in this week to change the stain on the floors so this is going to be a key factor for me in choosing the right color. I will be curious to see what others suggest as it may help me too. Welcome to the kitchen forum! About posting pictures -- have you seen the instructions in the "ReadMe" thread (link below)? The key is to understand that there is no photo hosting capability on this site; you can't "attach" photos the way you could in an email. You need a website like photobucket (or, my favorite, Google's picasa) where you can upload and store your photos. Then you can add in links to them in the messages you post here. About your countertop question: how much light is there in the kitchen? Are there multiple windows? If not, I'd be careful about going really dark with the counters... but that is a personal preference. It's not as if there are rules about how to make these choices. If only there were -- then it wouldn't be so hard to decide! Are you sticking with laminate for the counters, or considering other materials? I thought I might post some images that you can see different combinations with grayand light stains. Last week while at the supermarket (waiting in line) I saw some pictures in a magazine (I think Martha Stewart, but not sure) gustavian gray peices with light stained woods. Your ideas of putting the white counters tops with a gray floor and a stained gray or natural wood sounds yummy. Not enough contrast. The gray would have to be warm (more beige rather than gray) for BOTH cabinets AND back splash. A soft white is stunning against the HEAVY MOVEMENT of Fantasy Brown. I don't think your wife can appreciate the heavy impact that stone will have. You do NOT need any more "colour" in this space. The counters and the floors have PLENTY. Remember the K.I.S.S. rule: Keep It Simple Sally. Less is more in design.

I did white with what you described and love the look. You can see photos of my sink area on either Minnesota Kitchen Pics or Kohler Smart Divide. But, it really is very personal. I would think a black sink would be somewhat hard to keep clean ....maybe those out there with black sinks could comment on that?

We've ordered darker granite counter tops and are installing a double black Silgranit sink which will replace a SS sink we bought just 2.5 yrs ago. Why? Because even though they are pretty when installed, they do not wear well. Within months ours had lost it's sheen and had scratches all over it. It's not like it's used a lot as it's only my DH & I, and it's a fairly good brand (Kohler). When it comes to something as utilitarian as the sink I recommend you put asthestics behind the practicality of the product. Besides, I can't imagine Silgranite not looking good with any counter installation.

Do the metallic grey Blanco silgranit. I think it would look great with your counters. Just undermount it and it will look seamless.

For the record, I had the silgranit (black) sink for three years, and it was a whiz to clean.

Thanks for the feedback - I really wish there was a place to see these in person. Any ideas where in Marin County I can see the various colors?

I'm not sure where you can see the various colors, but the Pegasus sink offered at HD is made for Pegasus by Blanco and it's basically the same sink, different shape and IMHO the finish is not as nice looking as the Blanco brand sink. I've also heard that Expo and Great Indoors have them but in what color or style, I'm not sure. You can also go to the Blanco website to see where it might be in stock locally. Marin County isn't at all a remote area so I'd be surprised if there wasn't a Kitchen/bath showroom somewhere that didn't have them.

For what it's worth, I was very hesitant about buying something like this not only sight unseen, but from online as well. So I did my research and after seeing it at HD, I took the risk. And I'm so glad I did! It's just plain pretty and I can't wait until it's installed. (still have a couple weeks to go)

IMHO dark sinks look dirty. I would do stainless or white.
