Problem with granite install - major space b/w it and the wall!!!

After our granite was installed, we realized that the granite was never templated. The installer only measured our space (2 times!) but never templated it. As a result and b/c our 1972 house's walls are not straight, in certain areas, there is a big space between the back of the granite and the wall!!! Ahhh...rather than rip out the granite and start again, our contractor recommended that we at the wall junction between the back edge of the countertop and vertical backsplash, we put a matching strip of granite material glued to the countertop that is 1/2 inch square. He says the seam would be invisible or covered by the backsplash tile. This square piece of granite would create a 1/4 inch radius between the horizontal countertop and vertical backsplash of tile above the countertop. The resultant top edge of this square piece would be 1/4 inch thick, wide enough to place tile above it in a smooth transition. Has anyone ever done this? We are trying to have the tile guy put up the backsplash on Friday so we need help! Thanks.
