Opinions...do you regret not going with hardwood flooring?
Comments (18)lodalady (and others who are considering wood floors), While our house is being built, we are living with engineered Brazilian cherry. It is not to my taste, but beside that, this floor must be installed right on the slab because it is hard as a rock and hard on my legs when I stand on it for any length of time. I don't know the finish because we're just renting this townhouse, but it scratches VERY easily it seems to me because we have tried to be very careful--pads on all the furniture legs, lifting chairs instead of pushing them, etc. And we have ugly white scratches on the floor. I wanted solid wood in our house, and after almost a year trying to find prefinished I liked (and could afford) I decided to look into site-finished. I got an installer recommendation from a carpenter friend of ours and he bought our character-grade white oak and installed it in our house. We are finishing with Waterlox (first coat on now) and it is GORGEOUS. If it scratches, we will be able to patch it up with more finish. You can't do that with prefinished. And the upshot is--it was CHEAPER than prefinished. I have told several people, look into site-finished. It's more beautiful, you have a great choice of finishes, stains, etc. I am thrilled with it. I can't remember how much it was exactly, but no more than $7/foot (installed) and probably less. (I would put up a picture but the floor is now totally covered because the painters are doing the second coat this week). - Magpie...See MoreInstalling Cup Pulls... can you please explain?

Comments (12)Are these two that you have narrowed down from a much wider field or is this your starting point? The second group, besides reminding me of those molded candies with the soft fruit center, take me back to some era, but I don't know which one. (That's a neutral statement, not a judgment.) I agree that it really comes down to your preference. Do you like them, and is your kitchen in need of a "detail to look at"? The oval-shaped plain knobs are a little more interesting than the round ones as well if you don't want to go too far off the beaten path. I have a builder board from Berenson. They have a couple of knob choices that have a little visual interest but the edges are smooth, if you are looking for other choices....See Moreif you didn't get a potfiller--do you regret it?
Comments (34)No regrets. After being in our kitchen for 3 1/2 years I think our best decisions were based on getting items that we knew would be helpful for the way we function (i.e. everytime we had traffic jams at the sink in our old kitchen---usually several times a day---I daydreamed about the way our new kitchen would function with a separate prep sink on the opposite side of the kitchen) and cutting the items that we thought "could" be useful or we thought we might regret not getting down the road. I appreciate not having any more appliance, plumbing, or electrical worry than we already have. There were a bunch of items, including a potfiller, I wanted when I saw them in magazines or read about them on this forum. Dh and teen dd steered me toward simplicity and I'm thankful they did. Stick with the items you feel sure about (and for some, a potfiller will be on this list)---those are the items you'll most appreciate. As far as fridge water supply with no drain vs. potfiller with no drain: we had never had a fridge hooked up to a water supply before. I was willing to risk damage to our 100-yr-old wood floors because I was pretty sure the easy access to ice would increase the amount of water my family would drink---and it did, by a lot. I'm pretty sure the risk vs. reward ratio would be a lot less favorable for a potfiller--for my family (and the opposite may hold true for other kichens.)...See Morermlanza
