Counter top people: question about KD vs. fabricators
Comments (10)Hmm. Read through the contract 3 times and not one word price changes pursuant to anything. Guess I'll have to see how it shakes out and deal with something if it arises. I was just wanting to educate myself a bit in advance. Thanks, jakuvall. Oops. Just found an email written by me that I had forgotten about. Guess I covered my bases last month after all? I put my questions in quotes and his answers are directly below each question. > Hi (KD name), > > Thanks for the quote. I do have a few questions: > > 1. "In which group is the Formica Luna Sand solid surface top?" Group C color, price would be $2922.92 plus tax for perimeter countertops > 2. "Does your estimate include installation of the plant on style splash?" Installation of all solid surface materials is included > 3. "I understand the full height up charge is the additional amount for the material only; or is that additional amount including installation?" T price includes installation > > 4."Where would a counter/splash of the same specs fall cost-wise in Wilsonart Antique White color? I am now also considering that as an option." It would be a group B color, the lowest price that I quoted you before ( $2516.28 + 209.43 for the full height splash) > > 5. "Is all of this 1/2" or is some of it 1/4" as we discussed?" It is all 1/2" as formica does not make a 1/4" panel in your color > > 6. "When I decide, how does payment proceed?" We request 1/2 down and balance upon installation completion > > 7. "What is the time frame for delivery of the slabs after ordering?" They would template and it would be about 2 weeks after that when the tops would be ready for installation > > "I think that's what I need to know at this point in time. > > > Looking forward to your reply, >(me)" > > This post was edited by deedles on Sat, Mar 1, 14 at 9:40...See MoreDid people try to talk you out of a White Kitchen?
Comments (41)I grew up with painted cabinets. White ones, even. After a while (several years), the paint didn't looks so good. So they were repainted. Each time took a few coats of paint and the paint started building up. The inset drawers started sticking and the molding details lost their crispness. Later I bought a house that had cherry cabinets. They must be twenty years old and still look great. Moral to this story was that factory finish is much nicer- smoother and more durable- than hand applied. The pics posted of painted cabinets is typically just after painting-not 3-5 years later. One time I do advocate painting wood cabinets is if the cabinet finish has deteriorated beyond repair or yellowed and would need to be completely removed to revarnish. In that case, it's much easier to paint. The other time is if the cabinet is a really cheap grade of inferior wood. (Your cabinets look good in the pic, but I realize it could be different in person.) Whether you paint white or blue depends more on the rest of the house. I do think white has a more generic look to it than a color like butter or sage. I've seen pics of great white kitchens but they've also been expansive with lots of detail. I've also seen several pics of ho-hum white kitchens that are lacking "something". Wood graining does add a subtle texture that standard paint doesn't. Since you're going to paint the walls anyway, why don't you do that first. Then reevaluate whether to paint the cabinets white, a color, or not at all. Maybe photoshopping would help show how possible changes would look....See Moreregular or counter height kitchen table?
Comments (12)I'll have to chime in with another vote against counter height tables. I just don't find them comfortable and I also worry about my kids sitting on them. The way my 2 1/2 yr old bops around in his chair at the dinner table, I would be a nervous wreck. He almost knocked out a tooth when he fell off his Aunt's counter height barstool and hit the granite counter. We are looking for an expensive table to get us through the young children yrs (who knew little kids could be so hard on tables!? I have a thousand fork dents in my old table to prove it!). I am seeing a lot of counter height tables in the lower price ranges...Not sure why that is...Or maybe it is just "the thing" right now. I am also seeing a lot of chairs with upholstered seats...Another thing I want to avoid right now... The little ones are just too messy. I am just going to keep looking until I find what I want. Good luck to you. I hope you find something that meets all your criteria. It's out there!...See MoreYet another person trying to talk me out of white Corian
Comments (70)Thank you @Janet for the input, that makes sense about the dark vs light. Your kitchen turned out lovely, so clean and refined yet comfortable and cozy. Mine will be more modern but I hope it can feel as comfortable as yours when it's built! What I mean is just the dimension of the edge profile. Standard is 1 1/5" which is what I am guessing yours is? I've been calling out 1" because I want it a bit thinner, the material itself is .5" like at your sink, I am even considering no edge, just the material thickness. But your's look good and balanced which may talk me into going 1.5" if that is what yours is, it's nice to get a feel from a built kitchen and I have a hard time figuring it out from photos. :) Has your edge chipped? I have quartz right now and it's one of the main reasons I want to stay away from it because my square edge is all chipped up. So do you think I would need something under my coffee pot too? For my simple, modern aesthetic I don't really want to set my coffee pot on anything, but I can certainly use a wood board for the crock and instapot. I have a jura capresso expresso maker, not sure how hot it really gets. I also have a toaster oven. But I guess I might have to have some extra custom trivets made from the stone slab. I am using stone on my island. I'm adding to the list of things to remember! Even tho I would rather not use anything if I could get away with it. Just to clarify, there are times you go all around your counter with a 3m pad, I am sure it's a bit of work, but do you find it easy to get it even? I will be so scared to mess it up! Thank you again for chatting with me about all this, very helpful!...See Morepalimpsest
