which scoop chair are you talking about? do you have a picture of it? the only backless stool i was looking at was at pottery barn and they were $250 a stool.....and not very comfortable......

The scoop stools I saw were on the Target website. They come in various wood colors and are 9 " deep which I thought would be perfect to slide ALL the way under the overhang and not have your feet hitting the legs if you just wanted to stand at the counter on the stool side. Stools with backs would hinder people just standing around an island if you were entertaining IMHO. They were $109 for 2. Check it out under backless stools. Let me know what you think.

We went with a very simple saddle stool for our short island overhang. So far, I've been very happy with them. They are comfy and tuck out of site. They were also a terrific price. $29.99 each from Linens and Things. I figure I can replace them when I get sick of them or find something I LOVE.

I have Ashley Prairie View stools (31" high) that are 15"x18". They would fit nicely under your 12" overhang. Ashley makes a 25" high version as well. They are very comfortable.

ichearts....i like the scoop stools and they are priced right. i think if you want them all the way under your counter, that is the way to go. the other option is trying to find a stool with a low back. my current ones come up about 2 inches higher than the countertop and really don't get in the way. even if people are milling around, they can still get to the wine and appetizers on the island. good luck!!!!

Jaymielo those stools do look great and look like i may have to try them out as well.(I have a small island with a pretty curved overhang and wasn't really planning to do stools, but I have been noticing them lately and figured I might try it out. )I will try those and also some others with an open decorative back. Also have to comment on what a great kitchen you have there and I dont remember seeing it. Lovin' that backsplash and your lights!

Some time ago I looked and didn't find any that would work in my case. They needed to fit all the way under because behind them is a trafficway, and all the shallow stools I found were actually signficantly wider at the bottom than top for stability. So be sure to choose for bottom size.

I have the same stools as jamielo but in a distressed black finish. I got mine at Linen's n Things, too and found them on sale, something like buy 1 get one at 50% off plus a 20% off coupon AND I ordered them online but picked them up at the store so saved on shipping to boot. I bought 5 (3 at island counter, 2 at peninsula counter) so basically got one and a half of them free...awesome deal. They are comfy and slide completely under my 12" granite overhang. The bottoms are wider, as rosie pointed out, but are not a problem. And if you just want to stand at the counter, well, it's not like they are solid on the bottom or anything...I can stand with my hips flush against the counter top and feet under the stool. We have fairly narrow walkways behind both the island and peninsula bar where the stools are and have never stubbed a toe or anything. And I have 3 kids that often forget to push the stools back under the overhang.

I suggest you sit in any stool before ordering. Due to seeing those cute little scoop stools that so many haved raved about in the last yr or so, I was all set to order.

Went to linen and things and sat in one. OUCH! I must be too old and fat because I could not imagine using them at my counter penninsula. I found them quite uncomfortable.

jtsgranite4us's look more comfy but who knows? I have stools that will need to be replaced as the kitchen progresses. They are all wood, but the seat is more normally shaped and they're very comfortable. Bought them at lowes years ago.
