Option 1 might cost more (if the countertop gets out of the "normal" range) but a deeper counter is always nice as long as it's not obvious or makes reaching the upper cabinets a problem.

I'd do option 2. It's probably a better DW anyway. :)

I don't have insert cabs but was worried about this too (2 paneled KA DW). I pulled out the cabinet run about 2" so there would definitely be no problems. It didn't cost much more for the granite but if you have an end panel it will need to be bigger. I love the extra counter space and so happy I did this. It also gave me more space behind my sink.

Bostonpam, thanks for the reminder about the end panel....that may clinch it for me, b/c I think the panel for our wall oven cab is already cut, so I may be stuck with option 1.

Option 1 is a great idea. Wish I had thought of it! Mine isn't flush with my cabinets but it doesn't bother me at all. I was afraid it would but by the time I noticed, I didn't have the patience for anymore changes :)

Plus, I have a sink bumpout and the DW is sitting right next to it which tricks me into thinking it's recessed because compared to the bumpout, it actually is. So the only time I'm able to notice is if I'm looking for it. If I had thought of it, I would have planned it to be flush though.

Do you mean your DW is to the left of your sink if you're standing at the sink? We're doing the exact same thing - sink bump out and DW to the side of the sink, so maybe it won't be too bad.....I know what you mean, this is the 11th hour and I'm about DONE with decisions/changes!!!

BTW, your kitchen is really lovely!! What color are your cabs?

1) Purchase the KA DW and install my 24" cabs farther from wall, with a deeper countertop;
- The issue with this is it will cost you more for granite and will cost you more for cabinets. You can't simply set the cabinet 1" from the wall, you need end panels to cover the gap.

2) Purchase a DW with dimensions that will actually fit what we have designed (i.e. Miele)
- That's what I would do. We purchased a Bosch for this reason.

Sue36 - yeah, we were going to price out the difference to weigh the pros/cons.

Problem with going with the Miele or Bosch is that the width of those is 23 9/16, not 24" - which will throw off the dimensions of a 16' cabinet run - 7/16" may not seem like a lot until you look at the fact that the bead around the cabinet frame will be off between the uppers and lowers by enough to notice....

One of those things that would bug me every time I look at it :)

I've heard Miele has something called "compensation strips" (fillers, in essence), but I can't seem to find any pictures of what they look like, alone or installed. Suppose I'll try to call Miele next week; the dealers in this area are useless!

The DW is to the right of the sink if you're standing in front of it. Having it next to the bump out and close to the corner tricks my eye a bit.

My cabs are Candlelight Cabinets and were finished in what they call Victorian White, it's a slight off-white. It's part of a new build so we're not living in it yet, hence the emptiness. I'll take a close up of my not-flush DW from a few different angles so you can really see how bad or not bad it is. And taking pics of my new kitchen is my new favorite hobby anyway so I'm always looking for an excuse.

So I installed the kitchen aid Panel ready DW. I told my cabinet maker before she made/ordered my cabinets of the dimensions. Now everything is installed and the panels are at an angle. It looks horrible. She had all the original measurements. Should she have told me it would not fit? I have two dishwasher and would have returned them for the Miele or whatever else that would have been better. Now it is too late and I can't spend one more penny. Is there anyway to fix this? One DW is against an inside wall, but the other is on an island against a drawer cabinet.
After the thousands of dollars spent, I need, want, and expect this to look perfect. Who's at fault here?

Oh My! So sorry for your troubles!
Is the angle on the horizontal or vertical plane?
I just re-mounted the cabinet panel for my 18" Bosch. The installers mounted it level with the adjacent drawers & doors, but it wouldn't open all the way! I took it off & moved it up, even though that made it stick up about a half inch past flush on the top. Even though it's "off" from the adjacent cabinets now, it covers the space under the granite much better.
My point, however, is that the mounting to the dishwasher itself is templated, but almost infinitely variable if you need a horizontal adjustment. You may have to live with non-flush, but I'd pull out a tape measure & screwdriver & see what's causing that angle ?!? (Boy, am I tired of hearing "That's just the way it is. There's nothing we can do!")

BTW, I have a KA 24" too, but I don't have flush drawers & doors in my cabs, so I got lucky. I'm thinking that you could get another half-inch depth if they cut some of the drywall behind. It's just the drum part that's so deep; the base is smaller than 24".
