Looking for a good source for Calacatta Gold subways?

I am looking for some gorgeous Calacatta Gold subway tiles--probably 2x4 polished, if I can find them. Any suggestions on a good source?

Just wanted to second this request! Am likely doing Calacatta gold countertops, and thought I might have to go with Carrara or ceramic tiles for backsplash. A Calacatta source would be great.

Check the builderdepot.com and dekotile.com. I remember ordering samples from at least one of them and I think they were 2x4. I can't remember if they were polished or honed.

I have Calacatta counters and thought of doing the Calacatta backsplash, but ended up with yellow ceramic tile. Somehow, the marble tile almost detracted from the beauty of the countertops.

What size are you looking for? I wanted Misty Blue limestone and got it from CompleteTile.com - they custom cut and beveled the edges at a very reasonable price. I ordered 4 x 12, cut from a 12 x 12 tile and beveled. The problem was that the stone chipped and had marks on it from the machine they used. I had a lot of waste, but they made good and sent me extra to finish the job. I love my tile, but it is not easy to cut the some types of stone down to smaller sizes. Just saying that if you get it custom cut you may have a lot of waste.

What I found when considering this (albeit with Carrara) is that the marble that gets made into tiles is often a lot busier and "dirtier" than whats sold in slabs for counters. So they didn't look so good together. (I ended up using white subways with my carrara counters.) I actually used Calacatta Gold mosaic tile in my bathroom, and although it's gorgeous, there is a very wide color variation, with a lot of imperfections, in the tile that you don't see in slabs. I think if you searched carefully you could probably find the right slab/tile combo and if the rest of the kitchen were thoughtfully designed around them it might be great... but it's not as simple as it seems at first :)

Spanish word for Gold is Oro. There are variations in Calacatta Gold depending on where it comes from and when it was fabricated. It is a natural product and not perfectly uniform. I went to many tile shops and all their Calacatta Gold/Oro looked slightly different. You also have to worry about store samples being old and not matching the current batch of stone being mined. Always ask for a sample from the current lots that are available for sale. They might have to order a current sample and you might have to pay for it. Your builder probably picked the tiles based on price and not based on looks or quality. I would never allow a third party to pick my tiles!

I had Calacatta Gold basketweave marble tiles on my bathroom and shower floors and my designer advised against white because of upkeep issues. I'm very satisfied with the way the gray looks - I think mine were platinum so weren't deep gray.

I know of two sources: New England Stone, and New Ravenna (which makes mosaics). They both seem to do beautiful work. I assume they're costly, but you never know until you ask :-)
