What do you think about this quartzite for my small island?

My cabinets are all cream including the island. I was thinking of doing absolut black leather or silk on the perimeter. And this madre perola quartzite(creams,green,grey and black) for the island which is only 5x 2.5. What section would you use for the island? I love the veins, but there are not many of them. Would it look strange to have only a few stray veins here and there. Dh and I like the bottom left of the slab.

The green color in the picture is a possible paint choice(BM olive branch)

Would love to hear opinions.

I like the lower left and think it would be grand for your island.

I think you have amazing taste, and everything you mentioned (the quartzite for the island, the bottom left portion, the paint colour) will work beautifully. Your kitchen is going to be a "wow" one...I can already tell. Very exciting.

This is the first time I have visited this forum so I hesitate to jump in but....one thing that jumped out at me is "two small kids, no more planned".....sounds like our family, but.....the VERY unexpected happened and our boys are 17, 8 & 6. My standard line is "it took so long between #1 and #2 that we never imagined there would be 3!" So, while I am all for building small and love Susanka's Not So Big House books/designs, having a playroom/extra bedroom/office that can be turned into a bedroom if necessity strikes was a Godsend for us. We have been able to stay in our house comfortably with 3 boys. My brother, on the other hand, had the 3rd "unexpected baby" and did not have a decent set up, found a new house, bought it and is now struggling to sell the first house in this tough market. So, I just caution against designating every square inch when the children are so small -- needs change as families grow and it is nice to have a space designed to grow with you. If you have not seen Susanka's books, I would encourage you to look at them, I think she has some marvelous ideas for "stretching" less square footage. Good luck, your setting sounds divine!

I'm sure there will be others that will find something to critique, but I think that overall, it's a very good plan. There seems to be a good triangle between the fridge, cooktop, and cleanup sink. I'd encourage you to really think about your storage needs and make notes about what you plan to store in certain cabinets and then think about the relationships drawn out. For instance, there is quite a bit of landing space beside the fridge to the left. It's removed from the main section of kitchen so it may be seldom used unless you have specific plans such as a toaster/coffee station, etc. For instance, if your plan was to have a coffee station there, consider then how you'd get your water to put in the coffee maker (see what I mean?) If you don't have specific plans for that space, I'd consider moving the fridge to the left and possibly incorporating the current fridge space into the pantry. Of course, this is only generalizing, but having done a new build a few years ago (in a different house), I didn't really consider all those things and I ended up with some major and minor inconveniences. HTH!

BeeYOOTifulllll!!! I don't know which I like better, for me, I would go with the white ones, but the green is gorgeous! We had green counters in our last house and loved them. However, I love the white because you can change the accent colors of your kitchen much easier. OTOH, the green will be something distinct that not any other house you go to will likely have...that is a plus for me! Whichever way you go, I think it will be simply gorgeous!

It all looks terrific. But then you know I like those colors -- very similar to what I used in our lake house garage apt. kitchen.

It's nearly impossible to get accurate colors on a computer monitor, so this suggestion may be way off base --- but you might want to take a look at BM "Crown Point Sand" next time you're in the paint store. I think it might work out well for you. The olive branch looks pretty good, but I just thought I'd toss out another possility to you.

That's quartzite? Sheesh I love it! I would go for that bottom left as well. The veining is pretty :) And gad what a lucious kitchen you're going to have!!
