Stainless Steel vs. Granite Sink

We are getting ready to purchase our kitchen sink. Looking at Elkay stainless steel or Bianco brown granite. Your input please.

I'm going with Elkay or Blanco granite. Though, I can't decide if I want 1 bowl or 2...

I had stainless in my last house, and I just want something different. I also don't like how stainless spots or that it can scratch easily.

I recently finished my kitchen and put in a swanstone undermount granite composite sink and LOVE it.. it never looks dirty even though I have hard water. I did get the tan colored one so perhaps that helps. I have had many compliments on it as it does not look like an ordinary sink.. I'm surprised I don't hear of more people buying them as the cost was quite reasonable. Good luck to you :)

Is your ticor sink the 405? Can't find it anywhere. Galaxy tools have them backordered till early Dec "IF" they arrive, could be held up in customs so he says. I am scared to take the chance and my fabricator really wants to get going. My other choices are the Kohler 3099 D sink which is quite pricey (anyone have one installed?) or an off brand from Builders spec that is basically the same size as the Ticor except overall width is a little smaller. It is from Italy and the salesgal online says people rave about the sink. Decisions, decisions............. If anyone knows of an available Ricor 405 please let me know, doesn't look like overstock has the right one.

I bought a 36" Americast double sink because it had the shape I wanted -- little 'blip' outward on the larger side, so it fits two 12" pans. It's now 14 years old -- no heavy use in two-adult home. I've had one small chip -- now invisible with the white 'paint' you can buy for this. However...the 'finish' is dulling, whereas my Kohler prep sink is smooth as new. I use only Bon Ami on *everything* in the house. (Can with the little chick and the saying, "Hasn't scratched yet.") Never use abrasives like Comet or Ajax. A spray with Clorox Cleanup eliminates any grey marks.

I have a stainless steel prep sink and a composite granite main sink and love them both for different reasons. I tend to put food directly into the prep sink (e.g., for soaking potatoes for oven fries) and like how bright and reflective the stainless is. Plus I can see every speck of dirt and scrub it clean before putting food into it. The granite of my main sink is black and I love that it matches my black countertops. Occasionally I scrub it, let it dry, and then put on a little bit of mineral oil. I have very hard water and haven't noticed excessive deposits. I don't use a grate and am pretty hard on it!

Renayy, glad to hear you like your swanstone sink. Igale, I too am divided on whether to get SS or try the blanco granite...still researching.

I also wanted something different than stainless, so I put in two blanco silgranit sinks in anthracite. We have very, very hard water and I have yet to see them spotted. They are very easy to care for. So far, we love 'em!

Loved my Blanco Silgranite sink, it was amazing. We are putting one in our new build as well.

Have well water. Blanco silgranit in black-looks as good as when it was installed almost 1 year ago. Doesn't scratch, spot, stain-it's great!!!
