Dang - who knew pot fillers were so $$$$?

Imagine my surprise when I went to price pot filler faucets...$700 seems to be the mid-range. That's a lot considering the potfiller doesn't do anything fancy!

That was my intitial experience too! I couldn't believe it.

Then by chance I found a nice looking one (Danze I believe) at Costco.com for around/under $200. Shortly after I found the one I really wanted at Home Depot EXPO, also for about $200. The person at EXPO said the brand shouldn't make much difference since they are only cold water and there isn't much to them. Haven't installed it yet - hope it works ok!

Are you sure you want to spend the cash for a pot filler? They may be handy for filling up the big pot, but you still have to carry the pot to the sink to empty it anyway. It's trendy and upscale but only reduces your work 50 percent.

That is great. I did the same thing this winter. I did not do them in a pot I have a raised garden bed that I use as a nursery holding area that I have built the soil up with compost and a bag of Miracle Gro garden soil. 2 Purple Smoke bushes 1 Black Lace Sambucus 1 Purple Sandcherry Bush 4 Rose Glow Barberry 2 Golden Barberry 4 Variegated Wiegela Bushes 3 Rhododendrons All of these were done with pieces that I was clipping to shape the bushes. I did not think it would work but I figured they were going to be trashed I may as well see if they will root. To my amazement everything rooted.

datura - As food for thought, you might also look at the Moen Showhouse line. In the remodel at our previous house, we looked at the Franke's and Rohl's and they were very nice and expensive. We went with the Rohl and it was indeed very good looking and very well made but the valve stops were not as clean as I would have expected given the price especially in the hand held sprayer (driped a bit sometimes). The hand held sprayer of the Rohl was very heavy...solid brass with a brushed nickel finish and quite impressive to hold. However, the only problem was that, when using very hot water, you had at the very most 20-30 seconds before the sprayer was too hot to hold without a hot mit. I never even considered that in my grand plan. Anyway, in our new house, we went with the Moen Showhouse Felicity line. I do not particularly like the fixtures with the pull out spouts so I was looking for a fixture that would accomodate large/tall pots and pans etc. The Showhouse Felicity is very tall with a very broad reach. It does have a composite hand held sprayer so its not as hefty as the more expensive Rohl but you can use it as long as you like without using a hot mit. The Showhouse is not cheap but a bit less than at least than the Rohl we used. By comparison, the Rohl (can't remember the model but it was similar to the Moen in style) was about $650 while the Moen was about $550. Also, if you want to improve the water flow and speed to fill your big pots, simply remove the water restrictor from any of the models and it will fill just as fast as most if not any pot filler.

Did you set a minimum bid of $90 or was it a buy-it-now price? I'd either set a lower minimum bid (as igloochic suggested) and take your chances or do a buy-it-now auction and maybe even allow best offers if you don't mind taking less. It seems to me the largest expense to installing a pot filler would be the plumbing required, so I doubt people are hesitating just because of the price. They may not want to bid because your starting price is high enough that they don't feel compelled to bid right away, so they watch it instead and then they change their minds or move onto something else. I think you should encourage them to make a quick decision with a buy-it-now auction if you're not willing to roll the dice and set a low minimum bid. But if you are, $.99 usually gets things moving pretty fast! Good luck!!

pot fillers and prep sinks..do you really use them?

We have a Prep Sink and use it all the time. In our old kitchen, it wasn't the 2-cook issue at the sink, it was the 1-cook + 1-cleanup person that caused the bottlenecks! That and it seemed the sink was full of dirty dishes every time I needed the sink! In my new/current kitchen, the prep sink is in the corner of the peninsula, is on the same counter run as the cooktop, and is next to the MW and refrigerator. This makes it ideal for prepping as well as accessing it from the DR. I use it for prep the majority of the time. No, there is no disposal on it and while I wish there were, it hasn't stopped me from using it! (The only time it's a pain is when I'm peeling a large # of potatoes...but then I just use the main sink for that task.) Our main/cleanup sink is across a 6.5' aisle opposite the cooktop. It's primary use is to collect dirty dishes & be used for cleanup in general. It can also be used as an extra sink during prepping & cooking if needed...and when I had sixteen 13-yo Girl Scouts cooking in my kitchen one evening it sure came in handy! One of the best things our new layout gave us was separate zones for prepping, cooking, and cleaning up. Without a prep sink it would not have worked nearly as well.

pschmid - you are right - Expo has nice ones that are definitely less expensive. Thanks for the suggestion! And susanpn, you are right as well, but I always felt pot fillers were very handy.

I'm with susanpn: we chose to do without one--don't forget the costs are not just for the pot filler itself, but the plumbing charges to run a new water line and install the faucet, unless you're way handier than I am.

From my perspective, it's the trip to the sink with the pot of pasta and boiling water that's the much tricky one, and the potfiller doesn't help with that trip!

Overstock.com has some if you do a search for "pot filler." There are even some reviews for a few of them.

Actually, it sounds like headspinning has already decided she would like one, not that she is still trying to decide. I wouldn't want to make her head spin any more than it already is. Also, depending on your set up it can be very affordable. I intially considered one because it would NOT be very expensive, since I have a bathroom sink on the other side of the same wall and there is already plumbing in place right where I would need it. Just didn't have a lot of room under the microhood. I would still do it if I ever got rid of that. Besides, I think its ok to just do something fun, or cool or pretty, if you like, too.

I didn't have my heart set on one, and coupled with the crazy price, I was ready to let it go. But, to find an acceptable style at less than $200? I will probably still indulge since we are doing a total gut reno. It IS crazy though, how all these choice can almost make you go over the edge. My head is spinning and I have a KD - have no idea how folks DIY.

headspinning, I too paid around $200 for my Danze which has double shut-off valves. My GC didn't charge me extra to run the line. It was bundled into the total cost of the job. Maybe they're trendy, but I like the look. Thought it would be something a little out of the ordinary for my kitchen. And I think I will enjoy the convenience too. Either way, at $200 I thought it was a gamble I could live with.

We debated it and are DIY, so we could just add it later, but in the end, after we started using the kitchen, for smaller pots, since our fridge is so close, I just use the fridge water for the smaller pots since its filtered and right there... We really only fill big pots for pasta, so for the few times we do it, it didn't make sense - more often we just need a little water and the fridge works great.
