DIY sheet Formica on waterfall-edge countertop?
Comments (7)I was told by two countertop companies that you need professional equipment to do any kind of curved edge, IOW it is not for the DIY person. I have laminate countertops with wood edging. When I was pricing new laminate countertops, I got prices all over the board. I had considered just relaminating the countertops (leaving the wood edge) but I had one company tell me that it would cost more than installed new counters (with new substrate) b/c of the labor involved. So I don't mean to sound discouraging but it doesn't sound like relaminating the waterfall counters would be a great project. I am still trying to decide what to do for my own kitchen. I may do laminate on the perimeter and granite/quartz on the island....See More180FX Formica 9 Samples arrived- took 5 days from order date
Comments (11)The cardboard has a give and has that plastic satin coating that has a slight texture but is silky also so it is nice looking and is so light that the samples can be moved around easily. But I would have preferred the samples to be on the material that would be used for the counter. I'll take pictures as soon as I can but first I have a few more major deadlines to complete tomorrow. It takes me awhile to download the pictures, label them and send in a link. The samples look like they would be easy to clean with the finish on them....See MoreFormica 180FX countertop?
Comments (8)We sent for sample pieces of our 3 favorite 180 FX laminates based on the pictures at the Formica site. For us the Golden Mascarello was the best because it had larger light chips that ran in patterns throughout. Antique Moscarello had larger light patterns but had very dark pattens as well, making the counter look much darker, something we didn't want. The other sample was Espirito Santo. It had similar color tones to Golden M. but the chips were smaller and more uniform throughout. We just thought the Golden would be more interesting. Hope this helps. Comments (27)A few more pics as things get finalized... The countertop arrives! My husband Russell cutting the sink opening. Notice how he has the blood pressure, heartburn, and arthritis medicine handy. LOL Here is a shot of the seamless corner and beveled edge. Close-up of Butterum Granite (Formica) Another one The breakfast room side of the kitchen getting into shape. It is separated by a half wall on the left where the refrigerator is in the kitchen. It also shares one long common wall (with arch openings) with the kitchen and our den which I am also painting in "Praline". Here I got a new curtain with button accents $24 on clearance at JC Penney, oil rubbed bronze curtain pole $18, and Russell spray painted our old light fixture to match. Another shot Thanks everybody for your comments!...See Moreformerlyflorantha
