Comments (14)Habitat Restore is a store that tells new and used items and the money benefits Habitat for Humanity. Sometimes contractors will donate good cabinets and other items that they pulled out of a house. Sometimes stores donate items like when a custom order gets cancelled or a some style gets discontinued or they just have a surplus of an item. Great job! Love your choices. Perfect examples of kitchens that will look a lot more expensive than they were....See MoreMy two tone kitchen reveal sans backsplash
Comments (28)I haven't been here in a while, I have missed seeing and hearing about all the new kitchens! I thought I would post an update, now that we have lived with our kitchen for over a year. I really love my two tone cabinets, the cherry base cabinets are warm and inviting and the mushroom wall cabinets keep the kitchen from being too dark. After all the angst of the decision, I am so glad I went with the solid wall of cabinets. And I am still in awe of my granite, do not for one single second regret the money spent on it! We ended up doing a stacked beige subway tile for the backsplash, with a herringbone pattern behind the range and I am very happy with my choice. As for appliances, I still love my microwave drawer, I use it every day and the only complaint I have is that the panel doesn't light up well. And I absolutely adore my fridge, love it so much we got the same one for my son! The produce drawer is still my favorite feature, and the ice maker my least favorite. We have never run out of ice, but we are a small family and when we have company, we always use bagged ice. But I can see this being an issue for a larger family without a second fridge with ice maker. I am very happy with my Bosch dishwasher, it does a great job and I've never had the goop issue some were having when I bought mine. The big miss in my kitchen is the range, I should have gone with induction. And I really dislike the surface of my range, it is a pain to keep clean, I miss the ease of my Thermador cooktop. And if I had it to do over again, I would have done drawers in the two base cabinets that don't have them. I still cannot believe how much more organized my kitchen is because of the drawer bases! I had a hard time wrapping my brain around how they would function for me, but after living with my kitchen for a year, I would do an all drawer kitchen in a heartbeat. Overall, I am so grateful to have a kitchen that is both functional and beautiful, and I so appreciate all the advice and encouragement I got from this forum!...See Morekitchen reveal - completed staged kitchen - photo heavy
Comments (102)Sorry! It didn't send me any notice that the kitchen had been commented on so I didn't see the questions until I went to show someone the pics of my kitchen! Hopefully these answers aren't too late to help. Carynia, after much agita, I went with Antique white by polyblend (at home depot). I have it listed in the below posting. I see there that I made the comment that I could've went darker on the grout, however, I barely even remember that sentiment, so the color is just fine. http://ths.gardenweb.com/discussions/2439662/kitchen-reveal-almost-completed-not-staged-kitchen-need-tile-help AvatarWalt, I would totally put in that linoleum! There are so many benefits to linoleum that I'm sure you already know. If the wood floor had been in terrible shape, that would've been my first choice, especially since it would be appropriate for the age of the house. bobcatralph, that magazine was "IT". After looking for over a year for inspiration I had at least a hundred magazines and books (that I just gave away). So many were beautiful, but I just kept coming back to that magazine. I could choose between any Sherwin Williams paint color that I wanted for the cabinets, and in the end I tried to get the one that would be closest to that magazine (taking into consideration the lighting in my kitchen). I'm pretty sure I'll always keep that magazine (and a few others that gave me great ideas). Ps... another favorite color that I almost went with was Aleutian.... once I decided against white, it was very hard to choose between the two, but I'm sure I couldn't be happier than I am with the color I chose. Thank you everyone for your kind words!...See MoreReveal of my kitchen remodel
Comments (47)MainaGal, Thanks! The kids have been doing so much more for themselves since the remodel was done because now they can reach the things that they need. They all make their own eggs, get the plates out, clean up, make their lunches, fill their own water bottles for sports, etc. It's amazing how putting things within easy reach changed our routines for the better. Since they are still short, I have almost all the dishes low in drawers so that they can unload the dishwasher too (no excuses that they can't reach!). Some of the things I prefer higher and I'll probably move them up as they grow taller. I did forget to plan a place for the dog food though, so it's still in the pantry many steps away from where it should be, oh well. Good luck with your kitchen!...See Moresusanlynn2012
