Do I really need a dedicated electrical circuit for the Bluestar?
Comments (12)antss, you're making the rather broad assumption that all of us contributing to these forums even live in the same country, let along the same neighbourhood! I have no idea where you live, but in my Canadian city, I need separate circuits for all major appliances (even my microwave shelf required a separate circuit for its plug), make up air for all venting over 250cfm, and kitchen ventilation is definitely required for all new builds and renovations. And you'd better remove your shoes before you enter any private home here! (That's not code, just polite practice.) I only mention this to reinforce the idea that one should not come to a forum like this to get building code information. It varies too widely, and we don't know where anyone lives unless they choose to tell us. Check your local ordinances, or even a reliable contracting company. Then install your appliances in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations if you want to maintain your warranties, plus your home insurance coverage....See MoreHow many kitchen feet should I have?
Comments (3)I think you are right and your cabinet guy is wrong. You don't have to have feet on every cabinet. I did arched toekicks under the sink, cooktop, hutch and on the back of the island and regular toekicks everywhere else. Good luck! Comments (10)Wow, my kitchen has three duplex 115vac plugs, all on the same 20A, there's another one or two on the walls, near the floor, for vacuum/whatever. Not sure about the dishwasher, may have its own circuit, and the electric range is 220vac, thus on itw own circuit. The above recommendation sounds like a lot to me. Not sure why there is any code requirements beyond having wire size that matches the circuit breaker, and perhaps GFI, not sure I agree with that being required either, but I wasn't asked. If code requires all the circuits mentioned above all I can conclude is the electrical contracting industry must have had something to do with writing the standards (a.k.a code), suppose they dominate NFPA work on this type subject...then the towns/cities just go along as they don't have any expertise to make independent judgement...love the good old days of less government and less regulation. Yes, our counter-top microwave and toaster are on the same circuit and I do note a change in sound from the microwave if I activate the toaster when the microwave is running, but no problem, no interruption of power or noticeable change in the effectiveness of the two appliances....See Morehow many amps for electric ovens?
Comments (4)You're confusing volts and amps. Your electrical service is 240 volts, 200 amps (amps are based on what you said). 200 amp service is pretty common but it is impossible for us to definitely say that it is "enough" for your particular situation. Some questions that might help are: How big is your home, what kind of heat and hot water, how many air conditioners, anything else that uses a lot of electricity - hot tub, induction range, etc.?...See MoreJoseph Corlett, LLC
