Shaker Cabinet Style
Comments (45)I paid an up charge to have the 2.25" rails/stiles for the shaker door style I picked. The shaker door style I have has solid wood rails/stiles with plywood middle panel, it comes standard with 2.75" rails/stiles, the all solid wood version comes standard with thinner rails/stiles. It was still cheaper for me to pay the up charge for the plywood middle panel as that's the only different between two versions. The KD did told me ahead of time that the top drawers will have even thinner rails since I picked out the 5 pcs construction and I was ok with that. For the other drawer that can accommodate 2.25" rails have 2.25 rails. Only the top drawer has a reduced rails. I have attached a picture of my coffee counter that shows two doors and a top drawer with thinner rails. I haven't take any pictures after the kitchen is completed as now I am trying to get my cooktop repaired and have set up a temporary portable unit there so it's not good for pictures taking. Hope this helps!...See MoreWhich Shaker Door to Pick
Comments (7)Well, we've had our Shaker cabs for two and a half years, and we've only thoroughly dusted them about twice since the construction dust. Your post got me thinking how disgusting they must be by now, so I just went to check, and there is no noticeable dust on the ridges--even the high cabs. Ours are natural cherry, not white, so I was thinking the dust might just be camouflaged, but nope, even a pass with a white paper towel turned up nothing. We do wipe down the ones that get occasional spills on them (lowers near the sink, stove, and trash pull-out). The ones where the everyday dishes are also get wiped down because of fingerprints and smudges, but the rest are pretty neglected. Still no dust has accumulated. So, unless your house gets an unusual amount of dust, or if your door style has particularly deep ridges, I can't imagine it being a big problem. Get the style you like better....See MoreHelp needed! Conestoga or 6 Square Cabinets?
Comments (15)I can not believe 6 square sent you to an online dealer. They have a specific policy that your website can not give out the name of the thier cabinets or company name if you are trying to sell online. Nor will they let you order cabinets that are sent to residential adress outside of a 50 mile radius as a general rule. I spoke with the general sales manager about this just last week. So annoying for them to be inconsisent. If I wanted to send cabinet to your for example I they must be sent to my store first and I have to reload them on another truck I hire to send them to the end user if they are not a local sale. Glass door is not hard to get around. You just have to use a router and cut out the center panel in the back of the door and intstall the glass from behind. They only have 15 and 18" glass doors if my memory serves me right. The cabinets I have in my shop are every bit as smooth as any blum rail I have ever seen. I am surprised they were not upt to par for you. .33 of list price is a good number on the cost. You have to think out of the box when you are trying to save money and use a cabinet that does not have every size out their. I priced a kitchen tonight that was for 24 lineal feet. Allwoood (competiton to 6 square with same business model was $4,600 and Bridgewood Advantage (the most popular doors in the custom series at lower prices) was $6,700. I could get every size I needed with Bridgewood and can customize the sizes if needed. I bet Conestoga is in the same price range as Bridgewood. Putting cabinets together is not hard if the process is streamlined by the cabinet maker. If conestoga can do it for you and you get what you want in sizes and door shape go that route. I am not sure what you are talking about with the bevel edge I will check my shaker door samples from them tomorrow. Any one with an account to 6 square should be able to get you what you are looking for and produce a design and 3d's to show you what it look will look like outside of glass doors that are not available....See MoreNatural finish hickory floors with Oak 3-panel shaker doors
Comments (2)I find red oak to have a pink/cinnamon cast to it...whereas the maple/hickory are MUCH MORE gold. I foresee a clash of undertones with the red oak. Of course, if you PAINT THEM your fine. But a natural (even a stained finish) with red oak is going to cast a different colour of wood. The maple cabs, though a pale fleshy colour right now, WILL turn to a slightly darker GOLD. In a year or so, the cabs should be a very close gold/yellow match to the gold in the hickory (which is why I like the two woods put together). The red oak, will start out a pinky fleshy reddish hue...and stay that way. It will clash until you stain them or paint them. Your current front doors are OK-ish. The brown is just about right for the hickory. A snick on the reddish side but nothing I would lose sleep over. That's as "reddish" as you want to go with hickory. Red Oak will be worse until you paint....See Moretheultimatebikerchic
