Shelf paper. Yes or No?
Comments (15)Shelf paper attracts bugs. Shelf paper traps crumbs. Shelf paper looks like crap in a couple of months. Shelf paper is expensive to keep replacing. And yes, the health department does not allow it in restaurant setting. If you feel you really need to protect your laminate from Kool-Aid stains and such, how about trying plastic liner that is self sticking? I do not mean Contac with permanant adhesive. What I am suggesting is the plastic shelf liner that has a water activated backing that seals it to the shelves. You just wet the shelf and put it down using a squeegee or a book to force the air pockets out of it. When it dries it holds firmly in place with no shifting. It is easily removable when you want it to be. I have used the stuff and like it. I have shelves in my kitchen cabinets and linen closets that are varnished wood. There were lots of stains from the previous owners use, and the plastic liner covers this damage, giving it a "fresher" look. It also keeps further damage from happening. I can't see the point of covering nice plastic laminate shelves with either paper OR plastic liner, but to each their own..........See MoreShelf paper w/ decorative border?
Comments (3)Not exactly what you're looking for but if you don't find it, maybe glue this to plain white butcher paper.shelf edge rolls http://cgi.ebay.com/50s-Vintage-Look-Cherry-Red-Polka-Dot-Shelf-Paper-Edge-/230597902435?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0amp;hash=item35b0b4c063 It's out there. Etsy has it. Look at this one! If only I had the glass doors. http://tartdeco.blogspot.com/2010/01/whats-on-sale-vintage-shelf-paper.html Here is a link that might be useful: shades of the 70's!...See MoreShelf paper
Comments (7)Glad you asked this question. My husband has been BUGGING me to put in shelf paper, and I've been wondering why he thinks I need it. I've always lived in place with yucky drawers and shelves, so I've usually lined everything with Contact Paper, but only because that gives me a bright washable finish. My mother used to use shelf paper that was impregnated with something that keeps bugs out, but that wouldn't make sense in kitchen cabinets either. I think I'd like to try the LifeLiner if Janwad would tell me where it can be found....See MoreShelf paper/liner options
Comments (20)Thanks for the update! Sorry about the gray. One of the Behr floor paints comes in some lovely colors, too! But it'll be really durable, I bet. And easy to wipe down. That shoe organizer will be helpful. If you decided you wanted to try to use the side walls, but you need to be able to take everything off the wall to pull the stairs down, you could use Command hooks to hang shoe pockets on the wall too. (I cut shoe pockets down to all sorts of custom sizes.) (I say Command hooks because you can easily lift the hook off the self-stick part, so it would be out of the way) The Command brand also has wall-mounted spice racks and other small wall-mounted baskets/bins. I bought some from their bathroom line. Those would also lift off out of the way....See Moresayde
