Lurker sharing pics of our kitchen that you helped build!

We wanted to change our u-shaped kitchen which bordered our dining room and a small family room to one long open room. I found this forum, and got amazing advice from countertops to appliances to lighting and flooring. It was an invaluable resource.

Now, we are pretty much done and I wanted to thank everyone who contributes to this forum....every step of the way I used this forum as a reference....and I still do!

Anyway, I just wanted to come out of lurker-mode to share the final result. There are still some details to take care of, but we're mostly done!

Ok, here are the details!
Countertops are Verde Peacock (I LOVE it!) which we ran into the bottom of the garden window.

Cabinets are Brandywine stain, custom-built. The bottom cabinets have pull-outs, as does the large pantry. Everything has Blu-motion.

Flooring is Columbia Laminate Traditional Clicette Maryland Cherry Burgundy ordered through iFloor. Floor Muffler underneath.

The lighting was done by Lamps Plus

The faucet is Hamat from Ira Wood

The sink is Kindred, also from Ira Wood (this is probably my least favorite item -- I love the size, but food doesn't run to the single drain garbage disposal, so I have to "chase it" with the faucet). And also, no air-gap...we have not had any issues with doing it this way.

The wine fridge is Magic Chef - this is a great item, but we're having trouble with water dripping from somewhere underneath.

The refrigerator is Maytag, the stove and microwave Kitchen Aid, and the dishwasher is Whirlpool. I'm happy with all of them.

Beautiful Kitchen it is exactly what I would like to do. Did you paint your cabinets? I have custom red oak cabinets from the 1980's. I know they are made very well all solid oak with the shelving that pulls out like drawers. I would like to have my cabinets professionally refinished in a painted white finish. Last week we brought one of the doors as a sample to a cabinetmaker/refinisher & he said you can not paint oak. He also said that the quality of the cabinets are so good that they could not be replicated now. He said he could either stain them another color or whitewash them. I am hoping he is wrong & I can find someone to do a great job refinishing them in a white paint finish. Laura

buddy mo - I had to go look at the extra box of tiles to see what kind it was. Funny how quickly you forget some details once it's over. Anyway, the box says 3x6 Tumbled Marble Chiaro by PGM Products. I think we got those tiles at Lowe's. The sink faucets are Danze Opulence in stainless finish, and we bought those from FaucetDirect.com. I love the stainless finish, it's beautiful and stays clean looking, doesn't smudge or show prints. Rhome - Congrats on the marriages! I have a feeling that's right around the corner for us too... Thanks again everyone for the kind words! And, yes, the baby is the best gift of all.:-)

OMG! I love fridge pictures. There is a whole web site somewhere just for pictures of the inside of people's fridge's. I'll have to see if I can find it again and post a link! I am ashamed to say my own fridge is not in the best of order right now and it is just too hot to clean it out. Yours is gorgoeus!!! Joann

You have an attractive kitchen there. Pity the water heater installer did such an ugly job. I take it from the (also not so nice looking) exposed gas pipe in the corner that natural gas was recently added to your house? I also take it this isn't in the USA. I've seen installations like this one in Europe and Asia, though not usually in a kitchen otherwise so well decorated. Anything you build to conceal it would probably have to pass muster with your local building codes You might need a building permit. If you post where you're located, maybe someone will have an idea what would be required there. My impression is that this forum is mostly US-focused. So I expect that many of us won't know your country's or area's codes. I certainly don't. Heck, I don't even know what country you're writing from. Is the heater vented with PVC pipe? The white pipe at the top appears to be PVC. Are there two flue pipes, or just one? I can only see one at the top of the second photo, but the angle's not good and there's some kind of electrical appliance on top of the heater (I would not have put something there). If it has only one flue pipe, it would need makeup air from the house, and that means that your closet would need some kind of louvers or grill to admit air. The square area requirements for that grill will probably be part of your building code.

NIce! Peninsulas are SUch a drag. We also had a peninsula, at a right angle, and i hated always having to walk around it. We cut that off for our new kitchen, still in progress....

May, I love your new kitchen! The granite and the cabs and flooring are to die for. Simply beautiful. I love how you are sitting on the recliner with your feet up on the internet. Perfect ending! Congrats on your beautiful kitchen. The talent of you and your family shines!

We love our table! It's a Klaussner Urban Craftsman made of mango wood that we picked up at a local shop a few years ago. They now have counter-height sets in the same style, and we'll be picking up the matching hutch to go with it.
