Which appliance to prioritize with appliance budget?
Comments (13)Joy, we crossposted earlier. Since you're willing to spread this out, and since I'm pretty sure you're doing new cabinets as well, I'd prioritize differently. Good cabinets and counters should last decades. Some appliances do as well, but most, especailly in the electronics age, don't. So make your cabinetry such that changing out an appliance is no big deal. Dishwashers and ranges come in pretty standard sizes anyway. Just leave a little wiggle room, rather than making them tight to the specs of exactly what you have. Keep some extra cabinet panelling for making a little filler out of if there are unacceptable gaps in the future. Since you want an integrated dishwasher, buy the panel now to go with your cabinetry. Use your old one until at least everything else is finished. See if you can get a great deal on a few things that will pay for it. Choose your number 1, 2, and 3 choice range now, and make sure they all fit. When you're ready to buy, shop again and see what's new. You should find either one of the ones you chose previously, a new version, or a whole new model that fits. That way, your number one priority is practicality and your marriage, and in the end you get everything you wanted....See Moreneed advice on kitchen appliances
Comments (5)We just bought our first home six months ago and the kitchen remodel is going on now. We bought new appliances from AJ and have been happy so far. My link below links to a few shots of them newly installed. I mean, you have to get what fits within your budget. I think we spent around $2,400 for mid/low-priced Samsung/LG (and a random KA paneled dishwasher) stainless appliances, but we definitely ditched out the *THEY MUST MATCH* self-imposed rule early on. There doesn't seem to be a budget friendly manufacturer that makes a really strong suite of appliances, especially ones that will fit within all the other constraints (size, options, etc.). We were going to do matching Bosch appliances (the upper-end ones) until it came time to pay for them. I thought, "If we just spend a little less on the appliances, maybe not these Bosch, we can get a *really* nice counter." And that was that. Good luck! Comments (7)You didn't ask, but I really want to warn you about Pental. We had Botticino installed in September out of their Portland warehouse. It was etched with drip and can marks, from soda size to 5 gallon can size. The marks are visible in the light from our dining room chandelier. We looked at the slabs in their warehouse and the marks weren't visible at that angle. I don't think the slabs were cured right in their factory in SE Asia. I see you have two windows to reflect light on the countertop. That concerns me. Even worse was their response. I spoke to the warehouse manager. He said he'd call me the following Monday. Never heard from him again. I called two weeks later. No apology, just asked when he could come out. Came and looked and was at a loss to say what caused the marks. Seemed more concerned with the mystery than the customer and didn't apologize or reassure us they'd make it right. Said he'd be out the following week to take photos. Never showed or called. That was about 2 months ago. Have been treating the countertop with Dupont granite cleaner and some of the marks seem to have faded, but it could just be it's not as visible in the winter light. Your price seems high. Pental sells by the slab and our slabs were about $900 each. We have a large peninsula but short counter runs. Two slabs installed was a little over $3000....See MoreBest kitchen appliances for $15,000 budget
Comments (18)I see a huge benefit in having more than one oven. If that's in the budget, absolutely go for it. I also strongly recommend a CSO and I feel less clear on the microwave. So, I'd pick one of the following three options, depending on money and available space: Combination steam oven only. It's the most frugal option, and it actually works for most cooking needs. Combination steam oven plus a wall-oven or range. Many people find that they don't need a microwave. Some people legitimately have a need for one every so often. If so, get a counter-top microwave and either place it in a cabinet or in the pantry. Combination steam oven and SpeedOven. This combination saves space, but costs significantly more. It also leaves you without a full-size oven, but that might not be as important as you'd think. It gives you two ovens, and it provides access to a microwave, if that's important to you. Combination steam oven, range, and SpeedOven. This is what we ended up doing, as the kids insisted on a micro-wave, we didn't have another good space, it didn't make a huge difference in the overall budget, and we already had a range that we were re-using (yeah, for three ovens! No need for a dedicated warmer drawer!). As you can see, we picked the "get everything" option. I am happy with our decision. But if it hadn't been for the kids, we would have completely skipped the microwave and picked just a wall-oven or range and a CSO....See Moregregincal
