Crown molding over painted cabinets

I am remodeling our kitchen which is open to our breakfast area and then a sunken family room. The family room has a pretty oak mantel fireplace with a green/tan tiled hearth. There is also a nice oak crown molding which surrounds the family room and breakfast room (it used to be in the kitchen too). We have honey colored red oak plank flooring in the kitchen and breakfast room, carpet in the family room. I am painting the kitchen cabinets a creamy off white. Should I keep oak crown molding in the kitchen (might look a stripe at the ceiling) or change to painted molding to match the cabinets and switch to stained oak in the breakfast area? My ceilings are 8 ft. high in the kitchen and breakfast area, almost 9 ft. high in the family room.
