Thanks. I am pretty sure the brownish granite is Ubatuba. I would really like more delicatus, but doubt I can get it to match. Anyone else? Do these two stones work together?

It's hard for me to tell from photos. I'd like something in a grayer brown or maybe not so dark? But, really, I trust your instincts when you see them in person better than I trust mine looking on a monitor.

It's even a little hard for me to tell, because I don't have electricity in the house yet (we are using drop cords from our mobile home to build) and there is not much natural light in the kitchen. I would prefer something a little lighter, but with the same shades as the delicatus has. I probably need to grab a tape measure and my piece of delicatus and head to the granite yard and see what's in the remnant pile. If all else fails though, this ubatuba does have very similar shades as the delicatus, only it is much darker. I hate making these decisions!! lol!

They look great together. Its definitely not Ubatuba, which has a green tone....maybe Cafe Imperial. Check out this website remodelfla referenced on another thread today

I like the two together, but not right on top of each other. Is there any black in your granite to pull out and match with a basic black? Or you might even use a crema marfil marble with no veining?

pepper, that's a great link! I believe you are right....it is not ubatuba but one of the browns.

Igloo...there is a bit of black in the granite, but not enough to look good with basic black. The black tones in the granite are not dark black...more of a really dark gray. There are a few flecks of true black but not many. I have a nice sized chunk of absolute black and they don't look as good together as this "mystery" brown granite chuck I have.

I think a grey granite with simular tones would look better than the brown/black?

If your looking for a piece of granite just for that small bar shelf, go with a plain color granite, pick a color from the granite on your counter top,and go with that color for the bar shelf, if you have another pattern granite so close together it's going to look too busy.A friend of mine tried this once, with the 2 patterns, even though they were the same colors,it turned out way too busy, now she wants it taken out and start over again.

I agree with igloo,you already have a granite with a pattern,so I would look at a cream marble.that would realy look nice togehter.

Oh yes I forgot about the Marble too, I agree with skippy 2008 and igloo . A nice cream marble, but with NO pattern in it. Also don't forget to SEAL the marble, because marble does stain, it's more porous then granite.

I'm not in love with that combination, probably because of the different patterns. How about the bar in another type of material such as wood, stainless, glass? Copper? How about finding another piece of Delicatus from a bone yard? Since they are not on the same plain, it might not be noticed if they are slightly different.

Sometimes you can find out if another job is scheduled that might produce a remnant in the size that you need.

What are you using for your backsplash - can you tie the bar material into that?

I don't think the too are bad together, however did you check out the stone yard to see what remnants they have? You might be able to pick something up there relatively cheap.

I believe the brown granite is Tropical Brown, but think a black would look better. Have you considered Nordic Black Antique or Cambrian Black?

I think that brown granite is Tropic Brown. I agree that a solid color would look best. What about Caesarstone or something along those lines? I didn't have enough granite in my slab to do my whole kitchen, and my granite yard showed me remnants of a cream Caesarstone to go with my busy granite. I ended up choosing ss counters, but I don't think that would work for your application.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I think maybe I'll look at a solid color. I do have a scrap of black I can put up there to see how it looks. I can also run over to the granite place one day this week and see what they have. since it's not a huge piece, they probably have something. I wonder how soapstone would look? I am not even sure if they do soapstone...it seems to be a fairly uncommon thing around here. I know they don't do anything with Caesarstone, although that would probably be really pretty and I would like a light color like that.

It's hard to tell from the picture how well they will go together. My best guess is good, but not amazing. I love the dark wood that erikanh pictured (cool cut & paste job). Your "brown stone" looks pretty darn much like my ubatuba which happens to have more gold than green in it. One of the things that I like about my stone is that depending upon the time of day and how much light it gets (both natural and not) it can look very different - it's like having several different counters at once (fortunately all of them match). IMO you definitely want look at your combination in several different lighting scenarios.

I agree with igloochic and erikanh. I think that something that complements would work well. The brown granite is just a little too "grainy" looking. Depending on your overall style you may find stainless steel or glass could be options as well. Or you can purchase a sheet of bronze for about $300.00 and glue it to a plywood substrate then use flexible moulding on the edge for an 'old-world' feel...

First, your Delicatus is wonderful and I will be interested in how it works for you over time, staining, etc., because we are looking for a light granite too, perhaps Bianco Romano.

Because the second area needing stone is not large I would scout around for a discarded piece of Delicatus that will blend with your existing counters or go to a totally different product entirely whether it be wood, metal, or plain colored engineered stone, or perhaps a solid gray slate. How about a piece of honed AB granite? Another possibility is to take the material you are using for a backsplash and continue it on the pass through surface.

You've been pretty smart in your choices so far so have confidence in yourself and you will find the right solution.

A marble called crema marfil would go really well with the tones in your delicatus. I also really like the wood idea.

Thanks again for all the wonderful suggestions. I had considered wood for this bar. I still like that idea and if I can't find the right granite, I'll probably go with something like maple or maybe tiger maple. My cabinets are stained pretty dark, but the floors are unstained quartersawn white oak. Perhaps Q/S white oak might be nice for the bar also. Honed Black granite might also work really well since it is not the glaring dark black that most black granites are. I am just not sure a glossy dark black surface would work with the rest of the colors in the kitchen. I'll also look for a cream marble. My backsplash is tumbled travertine with small tumbled travertine and frosted dark gray glass mosaic accents. The BS is perfect with this granite. Now I know why people hire kitchen designers to figure all this stuff out!! lol!!

I am going to try to get by the granite yard this week to see what they have. I think right now, my first choice would be Delicatus. But if that's not possible, then I'll look for something solid....not the ubatuba.

I've seen what you have, and the other suggestions. I like the piece that you have (the mystery brown), but I do agree that it all depends on what's going to surround it, like what backsplash, the other colors in your family room, etc?

I think you'd really spend a lot of time and effort trying to match what you have on the counters, and I think that a contrasting bar top would be very nice. I like that idea even better than trying to find a matching piece.

The only suggestion that's been made that I liked as much, or better, than the mystery brown is the creamy colored one that redroze suggested.

Just my opinion of course, but I guess that's what you are asking for. :)

Okie dokie....I went out to my pile of scrap granite (I got a truck-load to fill in ruts in our roads through the woods) and found a piece of crema marfil. The color is perfect, just not so sure about the texture. It is very different from the granite. I do like the color very much though. The color on the outside of the wall is red and the arch way trim and all the rest of the trim will be white. So I am not sure how good crema marfil will look with white trim. Darn....this is just SO hard!! I think right now, I am leaning towards scouring the local granite yards for a piece of delicatus.
