Do dark countertops fade?
Comments (4)I was looking at WilsonArt Rustic Slate and Formica Basalt Slate, both of which are quite dark. However, I just discovered that Nemavar has the Greenguard certification for indoor air quality (low VOC admissions) so I just ordered some samples from them called VOUS Metal (reminds me of the Basalt slate), Veta shadows, black lodestone and a few others - they are all blackish/dark grey. My current laminate, which is white w/some grey flecks has been here 12 years and has not yellowed at all. I don't know what brand it is. I actually just got an email back from the company I am probably going to get my countertops from and he said that quartz may fade slightly, but usually only if it is in direct sunlight, like on an outdoor grill area. He said it should not be a problem in my kitchen. It also looks like the lighter colors have more of a chance of fading than the darker colors (I thought the opposite would be true). I think I answered my own question. :)...See MoreDark quartz countertops and fading
Comments (11)I am a fabricator. Dark quartz colors definitely do fade in the sun and the fading will be noticable in a few months or less in direct sunlight. In 13 years Cambria has replaced 2 of my customers tops for fading. One instance might have been sun induced, the other was almost certainly a material issue since the fading was prominent around the sink. kudos to Cambria for standing behind their product. I don't think its a common problem because ordinary window glass attenuates the UV portion of the sunlight enough to protect the quartz colors in most instances. Given the prompt fading I observe on dark quartz colors left outside I am surprised it's not a more common problem in parts of the country where people can leave their windows open most of the time....See MoreCan Maidenhair Fern take any direct sunlight at all?
Comments (16)hi I can't tell from the pic but it looks like Adiantum capilus veneris, venus maidenhair?? There are over 200 types . they range all over the world from temperate to tropics so obviously would have much different conditions. I grow them in pots in my deep shade garden area . IME they will tolerate very deep shade but no direct sun. they seem to like a LOT of water but will rot if too much croak if too little . The usual wisdom for them is bright indirect light ,moisture retaining ,organic soil but well draining temps above 60 even for the temperates . While I follow all that mine always tend to look a bit sparse . When I was in Costa Rica I saw them growing by the gazillions in "seep" areas as well as rock faces constantly sprayed from waterfalls. have no idea which kind but they were gorgeous!!lol I've moved mine to a dedicated fern bed underneath some tree ferns where I'm using only rainwater. I'm suspicious of my very hard alkaline tap water. too soon to tell if effective but the tree ferns are responding as well as some other types, Time will tell i guess Good luck gary...See MoreHi - Any ideas for paint color above green counter top? Comments (59)Here is the shop address and pictures of the valances I had made. They’re lined, the pattern in the larger one is matched up so it looks like one piece and the seams are under the sashes. They’re beyond perfect plus the turn around time was great and they returned all the unused fabric to me. Sorry, the pictures don’t show them very well. Oh! And if you find a style you want that they don’t have on their site, just ask them, they will most likely be able to accomodate you. I plan on having valances for my walk in pantry and our masterbath made by the as well. https://www.etsy.com/shop/TheIvyTrellis?ref=l2-shopheader-name...See MoreUser
