Sink & Stove on Same Wall? Show Your Favorite Cabinet Pictures

We have decided to remove the Wall between the Kitchen and Dining Room, very happy about opening up this wonderful space! Now we are going to sell the Vintage Steel Cabinets and Stainless Steel Counters with the Double Sinks.

There are Windows on the South, West and North sides of this much larger room! We will have to change the heat ducts and re-route them and we are taking out the gas stove because I prefer Electric. So this will give the new larger room, a really nice peninsula/room divider, bar area with some new White Wood Cabinets only on the bottom. We are going to have the counter top at a comfortable height and depth with room for about three stools.

Now here are the questions: The Top & Bottom Cabinets on the existing Sink Wall, will be White Wood. So should the Cabinet panels that are on the Dining Room side of the new 1/2 height Wall, under the seating bar, be White, also? Or would it be good to make these: bottom panels in Cherry Wood Beaded Board, because that will be a better match with the Dining Room Furniture? Then the bottom Cabinets on the Kitchen side can still be White Wood, right? Then All of the Cabinets, inside the Kitchen area, will be the same, White Wood?

Now I saved the most important question: since we are removing the Gas Stove from the wall that we are taking down, is it OK to put the new Electric Stove on the Same Wall as the new Fire-Clay, Apron Farm Sink? They will be separated by just one Cabinet and the counters will be Soapstone! The Dishwasher will still be on the right side of the new Sink. Because, we really do not like the idea of having the Grandchildren sitting at the counter/bar WITH the Stove right in front of them! And then the counters will be completely open for baking and serving, etc.!

Does ANYONE else have their Stove and Sink on the Same Wall? How does this work out for you - any regrets? We do not want to move the plumbing for the Sink, over to this new open counter, too expensive! And then we would have to move the Dishwasher, also! P.S. we have no corner cabinets because there is no room under the West Window where you see the old Milk Box!

Thank you all for any advice and Pictures, we need to order the Cabinets very soon! Any suggestions for the bottom Cabinets: Drawers or Pull-out shelves OR do You have a Favorite Cabinet that You Just Love!! Maybe we will be able to Add one of these, also! AND Please Share the best quality Cabinet Brand - and the best price, that you know about? In our old kitchen here and the one in our condo (previous home) our stove and sink were on the same wall. It worked out well from a convenience point of view. I liked prepping on the counter space between the two, we just had too small an am't of counter space.

I love our new set-up, but would have liked to have more space next to the range itself, and possibly for the range and sink to be on a straight run together, rather than the range separated by the corner of the "L".

We removed the wall between dining room and kitchen - love it! I also have sink and stove (well, cooktop, does that count?) on the same wall - love it! I actually thought I'd prep on the island, but it's so convenient being right in between the two that's where I always am. Granted there are some times in more elaborate meals that I use both, but with 3 young kids 99% of the time meals are far from elaborate! I have 45" of counterspace between and I find it's good. More is always better, but I wouldn't go less than 45".

And I recommend the drawers as well.

I'm sorry I didn't answer you question sooner. I guess I just missed it somehow. My DH put screws through the edge of the springs into the wooden sides of the raised bed. Love all your rooms inside and out! Here are mine. Our DIY kitchen that we are still working on( DH rather) and our front porch. I used the painters tarp and grommet ideas for curtains for the porch so now we can sit and watch the storm.I call it the "biggest little porch in town" You are looking at the whole thing in the photo, there ain't no more. But it is big enough for 3 to sit and the 2 dogs can lie on the porch with us. We have our morning coffee outside after our walks. I included photos from May when I had painted the free CL loveseat and made pillows so you could see the colors in a better light. I am just using grosgrain ribbon right now, I plan to make tiebacks out of the stripe canvas. Of course the roses arent blooming like that now.

I don't have a pic but I love my pullout pantry. 2 rollouts are attached to the door, so they come out when it is pulled open. The other 2 are accessible on rollouts, but only need to be pulled out to get near the back. It is 30" wide and so I can fit a ton in it. I stand to whichever side I expect to find what I am searching for and it is one motion to open it. It sure beats having my pantry stuff in the basement! I also did cubbies on the back part of my island, which I tuck my toaster, food processor, spices, etc.. in. It extends the counter space and hides the chaos from the other side. We designed it by accident because I had gotten the idea from Ikea to face shallow wall cabs on the back side of the island rather than putting a cover panel. When I was playing with their online planner is turned one of the cabs around and I saw the potential for facing 2 of them towards the cook. The 3rd one hides the back of our tall vintage stove. My only regret is I realized after that I could have skipped those actual 2 cabs and just had the counter that covers their top and sides form the cubbies. It would have given me an extra inch or so and made my spaces taller. I thought an 18" cab would be enough but the interior space is less than 18".... This is how they looked with the planner. You have to picture my counters going up to them, flush. My KA stand mixer is too tall for in there and I did not go for the spice carousels as planned in this pic. You can see how they extend my usable counter by keeping more stuff off of them. The middle top cab and the lower 3 cabs face away from the kitchen. I have put a lot of can goods back there and the one closest to the kitchen table has dh's extensive condiment collection. I am so glad that got moved out of the kitchen storage area :)

willow, Please share where you found your white Cabinets and your source for the white Subway Tile, Soapstone and Marble - We love it, also! boxerpups, You are so blessed to have so many great windows! There is no room in our kitchen for a regular table, most of our meals will be in the adjoining Dining Room. Love your white kitchen and those gorgeous floors, what are they and your counters? Great peninsula, you have it all! Also, what brand is your Range, maybe we can find one like yours in Electric. Wonderful moldings above the cabinets! Thank you for all of the Pictures! Well - as of TODAY we officially own our new, Old House, so exciting, almost cried! Will have the keys on Friday, and we will take the accurate measurements of the kitchen. There may be room for a small wood island or a little Bistro table, placed under that window, just have to see them in place! Will it be OK to use a marble Back Splash with a granite counter? I love that milk box! Very cool. And someone will acquire a gem with those cabinets!

What size stove are you considering? How wide will your sink be? How wide is the space between the sink and the wall? My concern is that not only will you have little space between the sink and the stove, but also between the stove and the wall. You won't want to have the stove right up against the wall; I think it may even be against code (not sure). I guess I'd rather have a little more space on the left even if it meant a compromise of space between the stove and sink. How far will the peninsula be from the sink run? (Have you considered making it an island instead of a peninsula?) Will you have counter space that can be used for prep on the peninsula and have it close enough to transfer ingredients to the stove?

Can you post a layout of the current kitchen?

Since you asked, we do have sink and stove together, but we have a wider wall for it. The whole run is 19', which allows for wide counter spaces (I will say that the distance from sink to stove is a little too far, though the prep sink helps; I may have opted to put the DW on the left side of the sink in retrospect); the wall itself, including the door, is 25'.

The issue is not sink and stove on same wall--that can actually be useful, because you don't have to carry dripping pots or boiling pasta across a floor.

The issue is a single cabinet width to prep on. For that to work, you need a different space to turn and prep, like an island.
