Please share your opinion on a kitchen floor stain color
Comments (4)Thanks for the links! I know many people prefer oak in hues close to the natural color. I do love the look of the natural color as well, anenemity. But it's an old house, with a ton of woodwork, and much of the hardwood has gotten that red/gold patina that makes a natural finish just as stark as something very dark, in my opinion. I want to have something of the transitional blend. There are downsides to darker wood - it will show more dust, but by the same logic it will show off the cabinets more. I'm adding that recipe to the list, Nini. Like you, I didn't want red. I was "OK" with many colors but nothing really leaps out quite yet. Does anyone have any more stain recipes to share? From what I understand, applying dye is more difficult to HW floors, possibly the Woodworking forum was more directed towards cabinets?...See MoreWhite cabinets, dark grey countertops - what color sink?
Comments (9)I'm not sure where you can see the various colors, but the Pegasus sink offered at HD is made for Pegasus by Blanco and it's basically the same sink, different shape and IMHO the finish is not as nice looking as the Blanco brand sink. I've also heard that Expo and Great Indoors have them but in what color or style, I'm not sure. You can also go to the Blanco website to see where it might be in stock locally. Marin County isn't at all a remote area so I'd be surprised if there wasn't a Kitchen/bath showroom somewhere that didn't have them. For what it's worth, I was very hesitant about buying something like this not only sight unseen, but from online as well. So I did my research and after seeing it at HD, I took the risk. And I'm so glad I did! It's just plain pretty and I can't wait until it's installed. (still have a couple weeks to go)...See MoreBest "value" for a black (or dark grey) matte countertop?
Comments (8)I have spent the last 5 hours going through an enormous pile of British shelter magazines for my clipping files. Of course, that meant totally re-reading them once more! I was struck at how often slate was used for kitchen countertops. I just Googled slate and liked what I saw! <http://www.countertopguides.com/guides/pros-and-cons-of-slate-countertops.html> I have no idea where they are price-wise, but if I wanted a dark countertop in a honed finish, this would be my choice....See MoreDark cherry island..black countertop too dark?
Comments (55)Thank you, thank you! I have been so rude not getting back here to update. Distracted by picking out lights for a whole house is overwhelming me and starting to really drive me crazy. But on a positive note I took all of your good advice and made progress on the countertop front. I went to the stone place in our town. They had a small sample of the London Sky. It was really beautiful and looked a lot like Marble. A better choice than a lot of quartz that I have looked at. But it was a little too gray for my white cabinets. i went back to the brushed via lactea slabs with my dark cherry door in hand and try as I might not to I had to admit that it was too dark. I hated that because I adored this brushed stone and it is my first choice but I have to listen to the good advice I got here. Sometimes I think the folks here know more than the professional ids. then I found two quartz samples that I really liked all while my granite gal told me that they had some Taj Mahal that I could look at since I had never seen it in person. My eyes must have lit up and she warned me that it will be higher than my via lactea. I was excited about seeing it anyway. just for the heck of it I asked her if she had any Imperial Danby since I loved the slab shown up thread...knowing I really could not choose it. But, still I felt like I needed to see it if she had it. She told me no that she didn’t and that knowing me it was a good thing not to fall for something I should not have. so, my kd and my granite gal and I took the hike out to the Taj Mahal with my door samples and the 2 quartzes I liked in hand. here is the result. The Taj Mahal is beautiful. I love it. Now if only I can justify the $$. Waiting for the price. Thank you all so much....See Morecrl_
