Does apron sink spill water on front of cabinets?
How is your apron/farmhouse sink installed and does water trickle over the sink onto the cabinet? The person making and installing my kitchen cabinets wants to know how the granite counter will be installed over an apron sink so water does not spill down the face of the cabinets. He is also concerned that the apron sink is curved in the corner but has to to fit into a perpendicular corner.
Below is a picture of the sink that I want, and he thinks that the way it was installed is terrible. He said, "In the photo it shows a very simple top with no bullnose , not your typical situation, and it looks like no overhang beyond the cabinet , which is a horrible idea, unless one likes the look of water stains all over the front of the cabinets."

Comments (8)just had my 33" Blanco sink installed this week and love the size (bigger than my old 29" sink but not cavernous like a 36" would have been) -- i also got the grid which i think is a good idea for protection as well as raising the base slightly if you are tall. I bought it at a great price and spoke to a couple different sales reps -- both seemed to think it is fine quality..there def is a snob factor if you buy a sink with a higher profile brand for those who want to spend more for it. Blanco isn't hollow like some cheaper fireclay sinks. Comments (5)Not sure why your KD thinks you need a 3" filler there. In this photo, the sink base was made to accommodate the farm sink. The dishwasher is to the right: And here's another way to do a farm sink that involves less site cutting for the sink. Comments (12)I have almost NO room at all under mine. The garbage disposal just about fills it. In fact, if you look closely on the left door you can see the black marks were it rubs against the inside of the door. The GC had to rout out some relief to get the door to close completely. I also had to carefully wrap all the hanging cords around the drain pipe to clear a bit of storage space above the pipe for the fertilizer and watering bottle for my plants. Still, I got the sink and the look I wanted that has the sink sitting forward, seemingly on the legs (that's what brought the disposal up against the door). Think about what you want under there. I could have gotten a smaller disposer (I compost so use it infrequently). And I don't use a lot of cleaners. I also don't have things under there like instant hot water or a soap dispenser -- just the guts of an airswitch. If you want those things think about where they'll all go. Comments (3)Thanks - there is a more experienced team doing the install, so maybe they will have a better solution. I am not sure if you are familiar with the Kraftmaid cabinet, or if their structure is standard, but there is a pre-cut opening of 5.5 inches in height with two 1.5 inch pegs at each side of the cabinet. There is then an additional 8 inches in height that will need to be cut into to set the sink on the cabinet. We have a 33 sink which is on back-order but there is a + or - 2% on the actual dimensions which means in a worst case it could be a little under 33 inches. Do you think the caulk would be adequate to cover the space between the edge of the sink and the two 1.5 inch pegs on each side?...See MoreVertise

6 years agoMy wife and I gut renovated an old home. We installed a farmhouse sink in the kitchen. Water damage ruined the top of the two under-sink cabinet doors within 30-60 days.
We realized the problem was caused by the drying rack (place to the right of the sink). The water would run off the rack onto the counter top, which would then run over the countertop edge toward the sink - BUT because the seams on the sink + counter were not properly caulked, the water traveldc toward the front of the sink, and down the front of the apron. It would eventually drip on the upper part of the cabinet door. (Were you able to follow that?) It ruined the top of the two cabinet doors quickly.
We have since had the sides calked. It has eliminated a good deal of the water, but some still hits the cabinet door.I bet we're replacing these again in a few months. Sigh.
