dishwasher under prep end of Kohler stages 45 sink?

I've seen a few threads about what can be done under the shallow side of the Kohler stages sink, I'm just wondering if anyone has actually had success installing their dishwasher there. I realize there is a small hook at the back where the storage tray is intended to go, but I plan to remove this and hope I can install my dishwasher underneath instead. If not I may have to make some changes to my cabinet plans. Anyone out there manage to get their dishwasher under the shallow end of this sink?

I DID IT!

Yes, I dropped my Asko all the way to the floor, took a dremel cutoff wheel to those tabs under the shallow end of the Stages, and Voila. An 1/8th of an inch to spare and everything.

any metal can be cut.

An entire stainless counter is an alternative.
Into it one can have welded
1. drainboards, runnels
2. sinks, with rims of the "right" shape to hold cutting boards, colanders and accessories.
3. ridges on the sink walls, to hold grids above the sink floor (like the Orca sink).
4. a bump edge (marine) to hold water on the counter.

Did you get this done? Of course I don't want a solid stainless counter top. I have measured a million times and I'm fairly certain with the hooks cutoff and my Asko DW on the floor it will work. The max height of the DW is at the front, and should not overlap the workspace tray that is 1 13/16 below the counter. The tub of the dishwasher may, in fact, be within 1/4 of an inch of the sink, but get er done.... I would be reassured if someone has already done this. If no I will post a pic when it happens. Worse case scenario is bailing to a double dish drawer which is the shortest, full size DW I know of.

Clarion, thanks for the picture. It looks great in your kitchen, especially with your countertop. What faucet are you using? My setup would be similar to the one in the picture, except my dishwasher would be to the right of the trash pullout. Can anyone chime in on my question - Will it be inconvenient to load the dishwasher? I would be rinsing them in the sink and then reaching over almost two feet to put the dishes in the dishwasher.

It doesn't make sense to simply replace the clean-up sink with the stages sink. The out of the way location makes sense for a clean-up sink and is sort of the worst possible place for a prep sink. Imagine you are cooking, and whatever's in your pan is browning rapidly, and you realize you were supposed to add an extra ingredient before it finishes. You're going whip around that island to the prep area to grab that extra ingredient and whip back. How many times will that happen before you injure yourself running into the island? Or run into somebody else? It would make sense in terms of use and location to replace the prep sink with the stages. But then you are using nearly all your island for that. I would suggest posting your layout again and asking how it could be reworked for the stages to make sense for you. Things are going to have to move around a lot more than simple swap you're proposing.

I have heard that sink mentioned many times on this board but I actually looked at a YouTube video on it just now. No wonder you want it Mrs. Pete! i don't have much to add except to say that my kitchen in my house before this house had a setup a lot like your new house with the peninsula. I loved that kitchen. The corner between the sink and the dw was accessed from the other side of the peninsula. I kept linens, etc. there. the only thing between my sink and my dishwasher was a single trash pullout (same side as dw) whereas yours is right next to the corner. Does that make sense? It worked out very well. I stood to the left of my dw, in front of my sink and filled or emptied my dw and most of my dishes went right into uppers above on the wall to the right of my sink. I don't think you can have it so close to the corner, but that single trash pullout cabinet I had wasn't very big. It worked out well. frankly, it was a better setup than what I have now with my big sink and dw on my island as far as convenience. It sounds like you are worried about not having enough kitchen drawers if you go with this sink. if I remember right you have a large pantry that you could perhaps customize for some of your needs? I have pegboard that I use to hang a lot of my pots and pans. Will you have plenty of uppers?

I don't seem to have a photo of the cut we made in the sink cabinet and the trash pullout cabinet from before the sink was installed, but was able to pull the drawer out and get this You can see we (meaning the granite installers) cut a little more than was necessary and then shimmed. Even with that much cut out, we didn't need to modify the knife drawer in any way and things go in and out just fine. Actually, I see that this photo still has the scissors there. They did catch the top sometimes, so I moved them. As for the accessories rack, someone on here said they wanted it, so I sent it on. I keep everything besides the walnut cutting board in a bottom drawer in the island. I do use them periodically. I love the cutting board so much that I mostly keep it out.

Sorry to take so long, I've been out of the country for a bit and taking a digital holiday.

In the end I decided the 33" stages was big enough for me and I didn't need to install it over the DW. Sorry, I'm pretty sure I've seen it here somewhere that someone has done it successfully though.

I noticed you accomplished this by putting it in a 36 inch base with the sinks pan on the left sitting on top of the dishwasher.

My problem is slightly different and I am wondering if you can shed some insight. I can fit a maximum 33 inch base on the right and the dishwasher to the left. Noticed in your photos that you had room to spare on the right side of the 36 inch cabinet. Would you think it would be possible to fit the main sink base unit into a 33 inch base?

What about using an ADA dishwasher and mounting it under the drainboard side. It's 2 " shorter than standard.

Before I had my dishwasher closer to the floor and out of line with the toe kick I would switch out the sink. There are too many good sinks out there.

I have a Bosch SHV68T53UC already.
I did notice that the Bosch minimum height is 33 7/8 ... the Asko is 34 3/8 .. so I have about a 1/2 inch more wiggle room than an ASKO.

We love the stages sink ...so we want to see if we can make it work! :)

Jarraa, I am considering this same approach. Did you install it that way and if so did it work as you thought. Any suggestions you have to improve it?
