Help - Which granite slab works for my kitchen?

Hello Everyone - We are finally almost done remodeling our kitchen. Now it's time to choose a granite slab. My only issue is I can't get a sample of the slabs I have on hold. One is Ornamental River (haven't seen this one anywhere I think it's the granite companies own name), Summer Sky or Matheran. My walls are Ben Moore Fernwood Green, my cabinets are Ben Moore Linen White with black knobs, my floor is oak and we have a fireplace that's close that has slate on the surround. I have pics of the slabs I have on hold. Anyone have any advice for me?

I think I like the first one, based on your description of your kitchen. Pics of the kitchen would help :)

Any one of these will look great. My suggestion would be to look at the patterns in each slab and try to envision where you will template. Soometimes people don't like a specific "blop" of color or a "rust" stain etc, so make sure that you can template what you want for your run of counter top.
I like your choice of paint as well. Keep us posted!

Sanjuangirl-unless your fab will give me the quartzite at his exact cost, I doubt I'd be able to make it work. Issue is I have to have 2 slabs, but i'm only actually using about 1/4 of the 2nd. I contacted Stone Age who ONLY charges for square footage USED, but you have to use their stone they have on hand. They won't be getting more Fusion in for 4-6 weeks and I cannot be guaranteed that it will be as light as the stuff at Bedrosians. I BEGGED them to source the slabs and let me do per square foot, but they have to have the whole lot to do it. I TIRED!LOL. Good news is I'll get my counters AND fireplace done for UNDER budget.

You changed the photo at 10:13 and that changed everything that follows. Be careful or you and we aren't going to be able to keep things straight. My favorite is still the one Mayflowers posted because it has such a lovely color. The green will compliment the red in the cabinets while accentuating the softer tones in your floor. It has movement without being busy or loud. Stunning. The soapstone and costa esmeralda would do well too, but they are darker and you have clearly not entertained that idea. I'm going to try to ignore this thread now. I've said all I can say. Thank you kksmama for finding something to remember in it. It isn't original. I think any good designer, the pros and the experienced amateurs here, will all tell you the same thing. I'm sure I've read it all here before. And now I'm going to vent a little and try not to lose the playing nice factor altogether. My frustration here is that I don't feel the OP is paying attention. Maybe they just don't get it and I can't explain it any better. The suggestion to get a pro involved and looking at these in person has been made more than once. I think its time to heed that advise. It takes time and effort for us to open up multiple screens and look at them and then comment on them thoughtfully. When the comments appear to be ignored, or at least not beneficial, and followed only by another set of photos that show we aren't making any progress in the process, I have to stop. I suspect others already have. Good luck.

i agree, i like #3 a little better. its a little more defined and i love what is going on in the bottom right corner, very cool. brng your cab, floor sample and whatever else you have b/c it definitely will look different in person than monitor. and if you can, ask them if they have a hand-held lightbulb so you can use that to light the slab. hopefully they have a contractor light, you know the one with the cage halfway around the bulb. it will look totally different than with their florescent lights. i think you see the real color of the slab with that light. it really made a difference when i picked out my slab and you will see more detail in the slab.

I prefer the first one. I can tell you from experience that once the slab is horizontal on your countertop and cut up, it won't look quite as busy, but will give just the right amount of visual interest. Plus the first one looks more high end. The second one looks like what goes in every tract home.

I like the matheran but that is probably because it is very close to what I have picked for my kitchen. I personally don't like a lot of movement in counters like most granite has. I am sure all three would look great in your kitchen, does one of them stand out to you more?

Summer sky. Much less expected and interesting depth.

You need to see it with your floors, though.

I like matterhorn. It seems like it has the blacks to match your hardware, some brown colors that could pick up the floor, and some subtle greens among the white to go with the walls and the cabinets. the The others (in the photos anyway) seem very green and with your walls being green too, it might be too much IMHO.

I like Summer Sky. Maybe I just like the name : ) But also, have not seen that one out and about and believe me I am out and about looking for granite...The second one reminds me so much of the Giallo ornamentals that are everywhere but they are pretty and that is probably why, versatile, too. The third one reminds me of the Kashmirs such as the white and gold Kashmirs that are relatively common as well. But it really depends on which one looks the best with all that you have in your kitchen. It's really too bad they won't let you bring a piece home but I am running into that as well. The granite yards say they don't knock corners anymore because then they can't sell the slabs to other companies at full price they have to be perfect. With suppliers always trading around with each other at the yards I guess this is why this new policy. Now that the economy is down the rules have changed. You could probably sell anything a few years ago but not so much now. I went to a yard today and the place was all locked up and abandoned, eerie. Anyway, Summer Sky for my vote.

The Matheran looks like it might be a nice transition from the slate fireplace surround. Can you post pics?

Hello Everyone - Thank you for your votes. My husband finally went with me and the final choice was Ornamental River. It's very difficult to see the true colors in these pictures. The ornamental river has all of the same colors as Venetian Ivory (black, brown, ivory, gold)but different movement. I had a sample of venetian ivory and held it up to the ornamental river and you would have never known it wasn't the ornamental river. We thought the summer sky was too light. We did have a sample of that and in the kitchen it seemed kind of bland. My husband didn't like the spottiness of the matheran. None of them are green...the pics just make them look that way.

Gr8day - You are right... the Ornamental River does have a lot of the same colors as Giallo Ornamental.

They are all really pretty.
Now that you have chosen Ornamental river, what
backsplash are you thinking of?

I am thinking a soft crackled honey cream tile would
be gorgoeus. I just had to share. Or maybe a softly painted
handmade tile in a mix of cream and ivory white.
