You might consider white washing the brick rather than covering it completely. If you don't like it, you can add more paint, but it is harder to go the other direction. The two items I would lose are the rug and the coffee table. Get a more rustic table (or trunk). I would look for a rug with blue and yellow and touches of red and green. Might be a floral. The yellow paint and sofa are fine, but add some print fabrics -- toss pillows, slipcovers the side chair or wing backs, and in a window treatment. Of course you can do full drapes, but I could also see Roman shades -- not French, I know, but I could see them with or without a print valance and a vertical band (same or different fabric) on either side, perhaps at the bottom too, but probably that or the valance. If it were me, I'd use red and blue -- probably predominantly blue and yellow with additions or red and green. That's easy to do if you have a floral or two in the mix. I already have the fabric -- I lost the room when we moved into this house before I got everything made for another house. For me, it was a family room and breakfast room, so a bit more on the casual side. If you want to keep it more formal, I'd probably go with more blue and green. Red and yellow lean high energy/casual for me, unless it is more to burgundy and gold and you have the yellow already.

Roarah, it's nice to see a different spin on the idea. I love the floor and the hood, and especially the light. I'm sure people in Provence update their kitchen too, and some of them must go modern. Did you mean the original post? The Design Around This threads are mostly purely theoretical: Design a colonial kitchen, a Craftsman kitchen, a French Country kitchen. Do a kitchen in pink. Use a bold colored tile. Use a piece of artwork as inspiration. Although, one time we did have people pick a specific real estate listing and design a kitchen for that specific house (everyone chose their own listing).

I am a bit unsure if we are all defining "country french" the same way. The North American idea of a country french kitchen would not have quartz counters like that. However, if you are actually in France, the modern/contemporary kitchen is most popular, even in the more rural areas, and you might find Quartz counters there. And an actual kitchen in France that has not been renovated in the last 20 or 30 years would have unfitted cabinetry, wood counters, and a square block of marble for rolling out pastry and similar (i.e. not all stone counters). Please provide some photos of the look you are going for. It will be very difficult to advise you without a better idea of what you want when you say "country french".
