Help, rookie here. Must make decision in 2 days. Mind=spinning
Comments (16)When confusion reigns, I usually recommend simplicity. When presented with shapes and colors, there is no single correct way to do things. Many of us see color and we interpret design differently. So my input is simply an opinion. The mocha glaze on your cabinets sort of sets the color tone for the vanity bathroom grouping. For example, I see "brown" as a design color that influences the other choices to be made, whereas I see espresso as a neutral that for the most part can go along with most other colors. I do see the backsplash tile coordinating with your cabinet and slab choices. But the colors in the tile can further refine the color palette in the bathroom. Same with the size and shape of the backsplash tiles. The mosaic sort of drives the design down a certain path. If you're comfortable with all that, then that's good. Your choices are defining your style without you really being cognizant of what your style is. That can be a good thing. But if you're antsy about your choices? Stacking a mosaic/tile backsplash right on top of a slab countertop can be the perfect look for some folk. Others find it visually abrupt or visually jarring. They want a transition piece between the two. With you not being sure of what you want or where you want to go, I'd recommend using the slab remnants for your backsplash. If they can cut and fold up the edges of the slab to form the backsplash pieces, that'll help to maintain the slab pattern across the slab and up the backsplash, fine. If not, no worries, as the movement in your slab isn't significantly directional. With the vanity being in an alcove, if you wanted to add the mosaic tile at a later date to refine the design, you could stack the mosaic on top of the granite backsplash and tile some or all of the alcove walls with the mosaic. If you are truly uneasy about making a design now, then wait. Have them fabricate and mark the backsplash pieces but then set them in a quiet corner of your basement for safekeeping. After the construction dust has settled, you can dry set them on the vanity and you can look at the bathroom over time and see which you prefer; the granite or the tiled splash. Good luck with your choices....See More2 stage vs. 3 stage furnace
Comments (6)aab what area of the country do you live? both of these are nice furnaces. with the two stg XV95 Trane, you need one of the following two stg stats; Trane's 803 or identical HW Vision Pro Mdl or HW Vision Pro IAQ. With the Carrier three stg ICS furnace, you must have the matching Infinity controller-no substitute. You don't want to cripple either of these furnaces with the wrong stat. price, warranty, and comfort with the dealer would drive my decision although Carrier with the Infinity controller would be my choice. what are you doing about either an AC or HP condenser? Comments (12)So hard to decide. I love MP. I have MP. I love LdL too, but for me it seemed too cold and modern. I wanted a modern farmhouse vibe, so I needed more warmth which MP provided. I actually did walnut perimeter cabinets and painted island( a flip flop to your plan) which made it easier I think. The MP looks stellar on the walnut cabinets and on the painted(olive) island cabinetry, but IMO walnut countertop wouldn't look good on walnut cabinets so if I had down a walnut cabinetry island I wouldn't have considered wood there. I think that means I don't like your option 1 with the smaller island with wood cabinets and wood countertop-sorry) My original plan was MP on perimeter and walnut bb on island, but because I also have post and beam structural elements it seemed like too much going on so I simplified and went with a single countertop surface, all MP. I am quite happy with that choice- ecstatic actually. You are trying to make a lot of choices and thinking about alot of scenarios. I can tell you what I would do, but it might be better to figure out which stone you love and then, as Tim Gunn says, "Make it work" even if that means re-jiggering some of your other ideas. If you consider all your elements and potential elements and then figure out what you must have then you will know what to do or at least where to start. Now to add to the confusion, some things that popped into my head: Stainless backsplash behind stove would also look great. Where you have stainless countertop next to oven, you could alternatively do walnut butcherblock with embedded stainless steel heat bars. This would put the walnut on the white cabinetry which I think would look lovely. The island eating area and the eating area behind the sink could be butcherblock and everything else could be stone. Definitely go look at more quartz options to go with the MP. Think about which of the tones in the MP you would want to bring out, there is gray green gold, mine has purple streaks too. Would the Pebble go with the MP?...See MoreMUST make backsplash decision!
Comments (85)Joan - we had the guy who did all the tiling in the house do the backsplash. We considered doing it ourselves, but he was only going to charge $300 to do it so we decided to not bother. Day - the kitchen area is about 16 X 16 and part of a large great room. The island is 5 X 7 1/2....See MoreYoursTilNiagaraFalls
