Just checked GW for the first time in a while, and glad to see an update from you! :)

If it makes you feel better, we also have a crooked ceiling (about an inch over seven feet) and also did not fix it during construction---in our case we opted not to take down the old ceiling because of the cost (which was more than the norm b/c our attic has loose insulation that would have come down as a result and made a huge disastrous mess unless we took it out first). So we knew from the beginning that we'd have to live with some imperfections. We also have flat moulding (matched the original in the house) which is the absolute hardest to hide anything with. Our cabinetmaker did the best he could with it---it's actually a bit sloped on both the bottom and top edges of the moulding to split the difference for the eye---but had very little to work with, so if you look up, you can see the ceiling slope. But you know what? We never, ever notice it at this point, and I don't think anyone else does either unless I point it out. So I wouldn't stress about that!

On the paint...any chance any of your walls or trim are primed in white right now? If so, it's possible that you'll love the paint again once they're painted. I hated our BM Acadia White when our walls were primed white because it looked muddy, but we have it throughout the house, including the kitchen windows which we wanted to avoid repainting, so we stuck with it. Once the rest of the room was painted and there was no "true" white left, I loved it again! So if that's an issue in your case, I'd test out the color by covering the true white. If you do need a new color, though, I *heart* Acadia White---it's a rich creamy white (definitely not a true white, but we have it mixed in various rooms with greens, golds, browns, and soon blues and it seems to play well with everything---plus looks great with wood floors, if you have that in play).

It will definitely be okay, though! That's the best part---a lot of this will blur into the background once it's done, and you'll forget you were stressing so much over it. Good luck!!

We have the old house syndrome too. Besides a sloped ceiling, we also have one exterior wall that slopes in over an inch from top to bottom. The cabinets has to be built with sides that extended beyond the back so they could be scribed to fit the wall.

The ceiling was only a serious problem along one wall, and we went with a different style of door to hide it. That entire wall was designed to look like a built in area, so it works OK, or at least I'm so use to it that it does not bother me that it's different.

The upper edge of the upper row of doors is cut at a slant to match the ceiling. In this picture, the board at the top of the door opening is level. The bottom hinges are mounted level, the top are mounted the same distance from the molding across. Made the doors larger than needed, mounted them and snapped a chalk line for the actual cut. There is a bit over an inch difference form right to left.

With the doors shut, you can't tell visually with the strong vertical lines.

This is BM Atrium White. It really looks white, until you put it up against a real white. Just a hint of color to it, but not peach or pinkish.

BTW- the kitchen is a lot farther along than in this picture, but still not finished due to half the construction team (DH) sustaining an unrelated injury.
I'm still not as happy with the moulding around the rest of the kitchen, and am about ready to pull it all down and try something different. Or at least around the baking center as that is the worst area (that is the area with the sloped wall and ceiling). At least the main cabinet runs on the east and west walls look good. They aren't level with each other, but are level with themselves. We did rebuild the floor, so at least that is perfectly level.

Don't despair my whole kitchen has been a series of compromises!!! My one non-negotiable and bright light was going to be crown molding, that was until I came home afternoon to find no crown molding. The slope on my own old house ceiling would not allow any angles to match up. My contractor re-grouped and came up with an alternative molding that built up my cabinets to the ceiling and I'm happy with it.

I'm still mid-remodel and I will echo artemis that there are slopes. I have one area over the fridge that I hope will make it without being an eyesore!!! Grrr... =)

I chose BM Cloud White for my cabinet color. I was mid-way through painting my new custom cabinets cabinets when I noticed the paint store had mixed up BM White Cloud! Oh well, I like it and it looks nice but gee wilikers the amount of time I spent picking my intended paint color...what a waste! Hang in there!

Our old and new ceilings worked out fine at the junction but our old floor is noticeably sagging in one area. You can't see it but your feet really know it's there. I choose to find it humorous. It's cheap and easy.

When the cabinet maker/GC brought in the cabs a few weeks ago I couldn't understand why the uppers in one section were 43" and the base 42"... We have vertical and horizontal slopes. I prefer to think of them as kitchen geometry with character. Our cabs are dark with perhaps a white ceiling. The slope at the ceiling isn't too obvious now with grey drywall, but could be eye catching in the future.
