I can't help you, but just wanted to ask if you posted this on the furniture forum? Those folks are very knowledgeable about the various brands of sofa's.

I also cannot help you with the brands but please think twice about paying with a check rather than with a credit card. If something happens, and the order comes in wrong, or it's not comfortable, or it's a POS knock off, you will have more protection with a credit card.

I have a PB slipcovered sofa and I am very disappointed in the quality. I have had it about a year and it just looks like crap. I am currently fighting with PB to replace my cushions. I would continue to look for a sofa. I have heard alot of good things about club furniture's slipcovered sofas. Hope I helped.

I'll second newdawn's choice of Lee and will add Smith Brothers of Berne (if they are sold that far west) and King Hickory. All are made in the USA and are around the same price point that you're looking in.

Also, Flexsteel makes a better product if you stay away from Latitudes which is made in China and inferior to the rest of their line.

Rowe is a solid, mid-level brand. I think it might be akin to Flexsteel.

I've heard loads of complaints about Pottery Barn sofas.

Aside from Lee, I'd always check out Mitchell & Gold. They make sofas for Restoration Hardware and are a great brand in their own right.

I had ordered DD2 a chair/ottoman several years ago. Somehow the order was never pushed through and rather than wait 8 more weeks, we went and bought a Rowe chair/ottoman off the floor at another store. Horrible chair. Fabric was awful. She used it a lot in her room (teenage years). We got rid of it after a year.

I second Lee sofa's.

Our two linen blend sofas are from Rowe. We've had them for 15 years now and they've held up wonderfully. They're also very comfortable.

Rowe from years back might have been better but I wouldn't put the brand on the same level as the rest of them now.

I have a 7 year old PB slipcovered sofa and loveseat(and 2 kids under 4). They are in Butter twill. My complaints about it are that the couches always looks wrinkled. The slipcovers shrunk a little after they were washed and it's a pain to get them on and off to wash. The slipcovers also faded after several washings. Since I wash the cushion slipcovers more often, they are a bit lighter than the rest of the couch.

Structurally we've had no issues. They've withstood moving without a problem.

You can check out Crate and Barrel. They carry Lee sofas and have slipcovered styles in your price range.

I third (or fourth or fifth?) Lee sofas. Have 2 loveseats from them that I love. And made in NC!

I have heard good things about Rowe slipcovered sofas, horrible things about the rest of the line. Go figure. And horrible things about Pottery Barn... Lee is great, buying antique and recovering is great, Mitchell Gold is good. Room and Board is terrific, if you're anywhere near a store (esp their outlet in MN!).

I think the information the salesperson told you was wrong; I've always heard that Mitchell Gold makes the PB slipcover line.

You can get MG slipcover sofas from them directly for less than $2300. We have a MG showroom near where I live but even if you don't, you can see them online at the website, www.mitchellgold.com

Another source that I can't vouch for personally, but know at least one person on the forum has purchased, is Nantuckit. They make a LARGE line of slipcover sofas, chairs, etc and you can customize with a dizzying variety of fabrics. You can also get them for a lot less than two grand. I've linked to the website below. When I was looking at slipcover couches the person (and forgive me, my midlife brain is foggy on a name but I recall it was a regular with good taste :) who had bought one posted with a very positive review. Maybe she will chime in or you can do a forum search. I did contact them and the person I spoke to was extremely nice and helpful. I requested swatches which were sent quickly and at no charge for my review. I ended up going with a leather couch but if I ever get a slipcover sofa I'll probably give Nantuckit a serious look.

Sometimes they also run shipping specials so you might factor that in as well; shipping on couches can really get pricey. I recall that was one gripe I had about PB. They not only charge an arm and a (couch:) leg but add on some kind of additional surcharge! Seemed like a rip-off to me but of course if someone is saying she will get you a side-market version maybe that's not an issue. OTOH maybe you recall the ongoing saga of the knockoff-but-not-really-but-crappy patio furniture that is still ongoing. I'd be VERY cautious about deals that are too good to be true. They usually are, as the saying goes.

Wow! Y'all are so very helpful! I was browsing on the Nantuckit site and I like what I see, including nice fabrics, made in USA, and lifetime guarantee. Lee is carried locally and also at a nearby Crate & Barrel. I will cancel my PB order.

I'm a big fan of Thomasville furniture. Our 15 year old sofa is in top notch condition...well, it's kind of old and we're going to replace it soon, but it still kept it's shape and color.
